The successful candidate will spend significant time on the plant floor coaching, supporting, and leading safety initiatives that protect our employees while driving operational excellence.About the RoleThe EHS Manager provides technical safety and health leadership through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site safety programs, systems, and objectives. This position partners closely with plant leadership, operations teams, and corporate safety resources to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and foster a proactive culture of safety accountability.The role requires approximately 60% of time spent in plant operations providing direct support, coaching, auditing, and engagement with employees and leaders.Key RelationshipsThe EHS Manager interfaces with all levels of the Sycamore Plant organization and collaborates closely with:Plant Leadership TeamOperations and Production TeamsMaintenance and EngineeringHuman ResourcesCorporate EHS and J2E TeamsRegulatory AgenciesSafety Managers across other Tate & Lyle locationsContractors and Third-Party Service ProvidersWhat You'll DoSafety Leadership & CultureChampion and lead the site's overall safety strategy and management system.Develop and execute programs that deliver year-over-year reductions in injury and incident rates.Drive employee engagement and accountability in safety programs at all organizational levels.Partner with site leadership and corporate EHS teams to strengthen and sustain a proactive safety culture.Promote behavioral safety principles and continuous improvement initiatives.Regulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and environmental regulations.Lead and support programs including:Hearing ConservationIndustrial HygieneHazard CommunicationConfined Space EntryLockout/TagoutContractor SafetyHot Work PermittingEmergency PreparednessSafety Training and Certification ProgramsIncident Management & Risk ReductionLead incident investigations and root cause analyses.Develop and monitor corrective and preventive action plans.Analyze trends and safety metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies.Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements, including OSHA 300 logs.Workers' Compensation & Case ManagementManage workers' compensation claims and coordinate with medical providers and insurance partners.Support return-to-work and transitional duty programs.Track injury cases and ensure timely reporting and documentation.Auditing & Management SystemsLead and coordinate third-party ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 audits.Conduct internal safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.Ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained.Maintain EHS documentation, records, and reporting systems.Coaching & Leadership DevelopmentCoach and support managers, supervisors, and employees in developing effective safety practices.Deliver safety training and educational programs.Facilitate safety committees and site-wide safety teams.Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on EHS-related matters.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred.High school diploma or GED required; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, food production, chemical, or similar environment.Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems.Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.Experience leading compliance audits and corrective action programs.Strong understanding of workers' compensation processes and case management.Preferred QualificationsProfessional certifications such as:Certified Safety Professional (CSP)Associate Safety Professional (ASP)Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.Experience in food manufacturing or highly regulated manufacturing environments.Experience implementing behavior-based safety programs.Knowledge, Skills & CompetenciesTechnical SkillsExtensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.Understanding of environmental compliance and sustainability principles.Experience with safety management systems and auditing processes.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and incident management systems.Leadership CompetenciesStrong leadership presence and ability to influence without direct authority.Excellent coaching, training, and presentation skills.Ability to build relationships across all organizational levels.Effective project management and prioritization skills.Strong decision-making and sound professional judgment.Personal AttributesDemonstrated commitment to safety excellence.High level of integrity and accountability.Continuous improvement mindset.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Self-motivated, organized, and results oriented.Physical & Work EnvironmentThis role operates in both office and manufacturing environments.
