Lead Childcare Teacher

St. Louis Community College

STLCC - The Lead, Childcare Teacher III provides instructional leadership within the Child Development Laboratory Center (CDLC), ensuring high‑quality teaching practices, regulatory compliance, and safe daily operations. This role supports the Assistant Manager and Manager in the day‑to‑day functioning of the center and may open or close the building as requested by administration. The position develops and implements developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children ages 6 weeks through Pre‑K. The Lead, Childcare Teacher III supports curriculum implementation, including DRDP assessment and Learning Genie documentation, and ensures alignment with Missouri Licensing and NAEYC Accreditation standards. Responsibilities include onboarding new staff, conducting playground safety checks, and maintaining compliance with all licensing and accreditation requirements. The Lead, Childcare Teacher III also trains and supervises college students, particularly those in Child and Family Development, providing on‑site instruction and supporting academic objectives. The role maintains strong communication with families and college students to promote successful outcomes for children and the program. Responsibilities Meet monthly with classroom teaching staff to support curriculum implementation and improve child outcomes. Conduct monthly meetings with part‑time teaching assistants to provide guidance, support, and alignment with program expectations. Observe classroom staff regularly and provide constructive feedback to promote continuous professional growth and positive outcomes for children. Communicate ongoing classroom needs and program updates to CDLC administrative staff to support daily operations. Maintain and manage the NAEYC Accreditation portfolio to ensure ongoing compliance and documentation readiness. Review documented children’s notes to ensure the established quarterly goals will support individual and group needs; and all conferences occur – annual observation and review of parent meeting per staff member. Ensure culturally responsive practices that honor each child’s and family’s individual needs, backgrounds, and customs. Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with teaching staff and families of the CDLC. Train, supervise, and provide on‑site instruction to college students, supporting Child and Family Development program objectives. Stay current in the field of early childhood education and child development through ongoing professional learning. Complete a minimum of 18 hours of qualified continuing education annually. Maintain current CPR and Infant/Child First Aid certification. Complete all annual training requirements for Missouri Licensing, Missouri DSS, Illinois DSS (if applicable), and STLCC. Participate in CDLC Parent Advisory Council, STLCC events, and community engagement activities. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the CDLC. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Early Care and Education, Child and Family Development or similar degree. Minimum of one (1) year of relevant early childhood classroom experience, as a Childcare Teacher II, at a CDLC location. Work Environment & Employee Requirements Early childhood development classroom, outdoor recreation areas, and office environment. Employees in the CDLC must clear Family Care Safety Registry and fingerprinting through licensing, Hepatitis A Immunization series, and Physical and TB Risk Assessment forms. Additional vaccination requirements may be added. Employees must complete annual approved training hours each year (currently 12 for licensing and 18 for accreditation) and must complete any web‑based training for childcare as assigned by the states of IL and/or MO. Employees must maintain current CPR, pediatric first aid, and medication administration training. Employees must open and maintain a Toolbox Registry Account. May be required to travel to other campuses. Physical Requirements Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to move quickly up and down off the floor.
