Editorial Production Assistant

Seeking a detail-oriented Editorial Production Assistant to support a high-priority publication project requiring meticulous proofreading of a comprehensive state labor law reference guide (~525,000 words) and accompanying HR quick reference guide (~105,000 words). The ideal candidate will review PDF chapters for grammar, spelling, syntax, house/AP style adherence, and typographical errors (widows/orphans, bad breaks), while marking clear queries for editorial and legal staff without compromising precision. Requirements include proficiency with Adobe Acrobat markup and MS Word Track Changes, a keen eye for detail across dense technical material, and the flexibility to meet rapid 24–48-hour turnarounds during October and November; familiarity with California employment law terms, editing experience, and legal publishing conventions is a plus. The role is fully remote, however, candidates must reside in California. Responsibilities

• Proofreading PDF versions of the books for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax and formatting consistency.
• Ensuring adherence to internal house style and AP Style.
• Marking queries clearly for legal writers and editorial staff.
• Reviewing materials without compromising legal precision.
• Reviewing PDFs to catch widow/orphan lines, bad breaks and typography issues.
• Other tasks as needed for the project.
