Your job is the platform itself: the trigger layer that routes every inbound event from Slack, Linear, GitHub, and the ShopMy product; durable multi-step workflows; human-in-the-loop approvals; agent memory; evals; cost attribution; and the console it's all managed through. You'll partner closely with the agent managers who design and run the agents themselves. It's a small team with broad ownership, and the design challenge is keeping it a true platform - model-agnostic, with diverse triggers, composable workflows, and abstractions that make the next agent cheap to launch instead of a one-off build.Your Impact to the RoleDesign and evolve the orchestration core: a declarative trigger system spanning Slack, Linear, cron, and durable workflows; and agent runs that can suspend and resume around human approvalFind the abstractions that keep the platform general, so the next agent or workflow composes existing machinery instead of forking a new code pathBuild the tool layer that gives agents their capabilities: Slack, Linear, GitHub, Notion, MCP, and a dynamic tool registryBuild the management console agent managers use to create, evaluate, and improve agents (React)Make agent behavior legible: run tracing, evals and judges, feedback loops, and per-run cost attributionDesign and implement APIs in TypeScript and NestJS backed by PostgresDeploy and operate the platform on AWS (ECS, ALB, CloudFormation, CloudWatch)You Are Energized ByPlatform engineering with your users in the building: agent managers build on what you ship, and feedback arrives in hours, not quartersWorking where the patterns aren't established yet: durable execution, human-in-the-loop, memory, and evals for nondeterministic systems are problems you'll help defineFinding the abstraction that turns a special case into a capabilitySolving complex technical challenges with clean, efficient, and scalable codeWhat We're Looking ForStrong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and relational databasesExperience building systems other engineers build on: internal platforms, frameworks, orchestration or developer tooling, and the API design instincts that come with itEnough hands-on time with LLMs to be comfortable building an agent yourself: tool calling, context and memory, and evaluating nondeterministic behaviorExperience building interfaces that make complex systems easy to understand and manageExperience deploying and operating production services on AWS: containers, ECS, ALB, and monitoring with CloudWatch or similarAI-assisted development (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) as a core part of how you workKeen attention to detail in code structure and style5+ years of professional software engineering experienceBonus PointsYou've built on or operated durable-execution or workflow engines (Temporal or similar), or rolled your ownYou've shipped agent systems, built with agent frameworks (LangGraph, the Claude Agent SDK, or similar), written MCP servers, or built eval harnessesExperience working in high-growth startups or fast-paced product environmentsEnjoy mentoring and helping shape engineering best practices and team cultureIn compliance with New York Pay Transparency Law, the salary range for this position is as shown. New York Pay Range$145,000—$225,000 USDThe provided salary range is base salary, exclusive of bonus potential or commission and is a good faith estimate of cash compensation.
