ECE Associate Teacher

General Purpose To provide direct care, guidance and instruction to the children of the MAOF Child Care and Development Centers. To instruct children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth, stimulating learning according to the developmental stages of the children. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, assume responsibilities for instructing and supervising groups of children, preparing and following lesson plans, assessing and documenting children’s development, and supervising teacher’s assistants and volunteer staff assigned. Provide children with a learning environment and experiences that help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. Integrate the educational aspects of the program into the daily schedule of activities. Following the curriculum, prepare lesson plans and materials according to the general program, outline or theme, and in accordance with contractual guidelines and prescribed procedures. Lessons should include but not be limited to activity areas of dramatic play, science, math, art, music, language, nutrition, fine and gross motor. Maintain ongoing observations, progress reports, and developmental status of each child. Conduct daily inspection of indoor and outdoor facilities. Remove hazardous debris, unsafe equipment and materials. Supervise children activities indoor and outdoor to ensure their safety. Implement safety rules and supervise children’s activities to ensure their safety. Organize and implement a positive and comfortable routine within the room by establishing realistic limits for the children, effectively using time, providing for active and quiet activities, and planning orderly transitions from one activity to another. Plan and conduct classroom activities that encourage good health habits appropriate to the child. Involve parents in the educational activities of the program. Select and use materials and equipment that stimulate the children. Prepare and maintain daily attendance records and prepare other reports and documentation as required. Conduct initial, interim, and final assessments of children’s development, and document Individual Education Plans for each child. Conduct parent conferences on a scheduled basis to inform parents of the needs and progress of the child, providing documentation on the results for such meetings and conferences. Straighten up and maintain well‑arranged orderly environments both inside and outside. Assist in the supervision and on‑the‑job training and performance of assigned aides, personnel, student teachers, and volunteers and schedule activities for the same. Takes all reasonable precaution to ensure the safety of the children and ensure that children are supervised at all times. Become knowledgeable of general health and sickness in children, observe children for such signs daily, document any signs of ill health and immediately report the same to Center Supervisor. Follow the care and supervision of the children at all times. Record the number of children who eat each meal/meal summary. Establish and promote productive relationships with parents to increase the center’s ability to help parents meet their child‑bearing responsibilities. Be proactive in the program effort to recruit and enroll families that qualify for the CDES programs. Establish safety rules that are understandable and practicable by the children and adults. Supervise and guide classroom staff in conducting family‑style meals and snacks with children, sit at the table, encourage and, as necessary, assist children in serving themselves, and initiate and participate in conversations about colors, textures, nutrition of food, and where it grows. Attend and participate in staff meetings, conferences, workshops, in‑service training, and parent meetings. Help each child develop a sense of awareness, self‑esteem and the ability to express his/her feelings, and help each child develop pride as an individual. Help plan and supervise field trips. Be responsible for the reasonable care of the equipment and supplies assigned. Maintain a clean and neat appearance in keeping with a professional position and as an example to the children. Wear apron (provided by MAOF) daily. Wear appropriate clothes and shoes. Carry out any other activities that may be necessary for the proper implementation of MAOF Child Care and Development Programs. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Must possess a valid Associate Teacher permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Minimum of 1 year classroom experience working with preschool children. Must possess Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid Certificate (renewed annually thereafter). Skill in oral and written communication, ability to write clear and concise reports, and ability to read, write and communicate. Bilingual, English and Spanish required. Special Requirements Must meet state health requirements including passing a physical examination and a Tuberculosis (TB) test as a condition of employment. Must be fingerprinted and cleared through the Department of Justice. Fingerprint clearance must be active and on file. Must provide vaccination records for influenza, pertussis, and measles at the time of employment, with annual requirement thereafter. Must have a valid California driver’s license, use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance. Must have a positive attitude with a desire to work with and promote the welfare of children and their families. Sensitive to the needs of the program and the children. Ability to work well with diverse ethnic, religious and cultural groups. Maintain confidentiality. Regular attendance, Monday through Friday, according to schedule provided by the site supervisor. Physical Demands The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. He or she is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
