Wet Chem Group Leader - Laboratory

Group Leader – Richmond, VA Responsible for assisting multiple projects, interacting with multi‑disciplinary staff, regulatory agencies, and clients. Manage operational efficiency and team performance. Compensation & Schedule Compensation range: $55,000 to $65,000, plus an annual bonus. Monday–Friday schedule. Key Responsibilities Preparation of various sample matrices using pH meters, titration techniques, analytical balances and other support equipment. Analysis of client‑provided sample matrices using gravimetric analysis, flow analyzers, UV‑VIS technologies, extraction processes, and ion chromatography. Personnel supervision, time management, and operational efficiency. Conflict resolution, personnel skills development, team building, and conflict resolution. Accurate and timely communication with internal staff and management. Project scheduling with emphasis on rush and short‑hold sample preparation and analysis. Perform instrument maintenance and repair. Troubleshooting and problem solving. Preparation and calibration of standards. Inventory management of standards and supplies; ordering replacements as needed. Development of analytical methods. Write and assist with updating related standard operating procedures (SOPs). Lead overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of, analyses. Peer review of other analysts’ data packages, data entry, sequences, bench books, etc. Comply with the Quality Assurance Program and other policies. Ensure staff comply with the Health and Safety Plan, including proper handling and safety procedures for concentrated acids. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or an equivalent scientific field. Minimum of 3–4 years of laboratory experience in a commercial production laboratory. Well‑versed in most methods run within the department. Demonstrated ability to organize, communicate, and facilitate priorities to staff effectively. Ability to handle non‑routine samples and manage an effective workflow in the department (man‑hours, machine time, and logistics for numerous assays). Work Environment & Physical Requirements Sitting, standing, and walking. Lift 50 pounds several times a day. Overhead lifting of more than 20 pounds. Work in an office environment when not deployed on an emergency response. May be exposed to hot and cold environments. May occasionally work shifts up to 12 hours in duration.
