Head Baseball Coach

Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: Coach in various secondary interscholastic athletic programs. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma and a minimum of 64 college semester hours from an accredited college or university. 2. Meet guidelines of Kentucky High School Athletic Association. REPORTS TO: Athletic Director SUPERVISES: Assistant Coaches PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Has the responsibility for the sport and team that he coaches. Establishes the training procedures and methods for senior high and middle school teams. Never discourages a student from participation in any other sport. Designs sport to promote a well-rounded athletic program. Cooperative attitude among all coaches essential. Instructs athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, physical training, moral values, pride, social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence. Has thorough knowledge of athletic policies and rules of National and Kentucky High School Athletic Associations; responsible for implementation by staff. Establishes philosophy, skills, techniques for staff including middle school. Arranges conferences, clinics, staff meetings to ensure awareness of overall program. Delegates duties, supervises implementation, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates assistants at season’s end. Maintains discipline, mitigates grievances, improves morale and cooperation of staff. Assists director: scheduling, transportation, lodging, meals for events. Assists director in preparing and adhering to facility times. Provides documentation for local, state, national requirements: physical exams, insurance forms, records, eligibility forms, etc. Submits equipment and supplies requests in writing. Accountable for equipment and collects cost of lost or not returned items. Arranges issuing, storing, reconditioning of equipment. Submits inventory of all equipment within 2 weeks after season end. Advises director of recommended policy, method, procedural changes. Provides training rules and unique regulations to each athlete. Attends practice sessions and games below varsity level; shows interest in feeder program. Initiates injury, medical attention, emergencies policies. Directs student managers, assistants, statisticians. Determines disciplinary procedures and policies. Assists athletes in college or advanced education selection. Participates with director in budget needs formulation. Monitors equipment rooms and office; authorizes entry, issue, requisition. Permits athletes to be in authorized areas only. Examines locker rooms before and after practices games; checks cleanliness. Assumes responsibility for locker room cleanliness and equipment maintenance. Secures doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving. Instills respect for equipment and school property. Promotes sport within school through recruiting athletes not in other sports; promotes sports outside via media, little league, feasible methods. Works with director on promotional activities. Maintains good public relations with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, fans. Acts as liaison between booster club, athletic department, school. Recommends improvement in facilities or program areas to director. Consults with director and principal about cancellation, postponement of scheduled events. Keeps director informed of serious injuries. Maintains team records, letterman, award winners info for director and media. Keeps abreast of new developments by attending clinics, state playoffs. Works with principal, director, cheerleaders on assemblies, pep rallies. Arrives early, stays late for practice, contests, meetings; supports players, staff discussions. Performs other duties as director, superintendent may direct. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Employment will be on an as needed basis determined by the superintendent; salary determined by the adopted co-curricular salary schedule of the Paducah Public Schools Board of Education. EVALUATION Performance will be evaluated per the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
