Director, Implementation Science

AstraZeneca seeks a Director of Implementation Science to lead evidence-based practice transformation across assigned therapeutic areas in the US. The role focuses on designing and deploying interventions to overcome clinical inertia, advance guideline-directed medical therapy adoption, and improve patient outcomes through data-enabled strategies and regional execution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute implementation science strategy to diagnose clinical inertia drivers and lead initiatives through barrier identification, intervention design, deployment, and measurement
  • Partner with medical, market access, and commercial teams to translate product value into practice-evolving strategies and guide targeted field medical engagement
  • Design and deploy care transformation interventions including EHR alerts, learning collaboratives, and quality improvement programs using established IS frameworks
  • Cultivate partnerships with health systems, ACOs, academic institutions, and quality-measure bodies to co-design and scale interventions
  • Maintain expertise in disease areas and evolving guidelines while ensuring scientific rigor, responsible AI application, and adherence to governance standards

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in health economics, outcomes research, health services research, epidemiology, health policy, or related field; PhD, PharmD, or MD preferred
  • Minimum seven years relevant experience in academia, consulting, or industry with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device focus
  • Expert knowledge of implementation science research methods and behavior change theory frameworks
  • Strong business acumen and strategic healthcare system understanding including payer and policy landscapes
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving capabilities with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency applying AI/ML tools responsibly and knowledge of data privacy and research governance
