Electrical Technician II

Join a team dedicated to supporting critical infrastructure by ensuring the reliability and performance of essential power systems. As a Critical Systems Electrical Technician II, you will play a key role in the installation, maintenance, and certification of battery systems for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized technical skills, work in dynamic environments, and contribute to the seamless operation of critical facilities. The role involves hands-on work, collaboration with internal and external customers, and opportunities for professional growth in a supportive and safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with battery replacements and new installations for UPS systems.
  • Support preventative and scheduled maintenance of battery systems with minimal disruption to customers.
  • Participate in warehouse operations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and customers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Follow operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures (MOPs) to maintain safety and compliance.
  • Adhere strictly to facility work rules and safety protocols.
  • Utilize hand tools and general maintenance equipment for installations and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site during all phases of work.
  • Support other service divisions (such as Switch Gear, Operations, HVAC) as required.
  • Interpret schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions to complete tasks.
  • Learn and assist with disconnecting and connecting sealed batteries in cabinets and open racks.
  • Gain experience in building battery racks, spill containment systems, and installing flooded cell batteries.
  • Collect and enter test readings and maintenance data using a laptop for reporting purposes.
  • Develop troubleshooting skills for preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on DC battery systems.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Travel approximately 30% or more as required by project needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Services Management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to safely operate department equipment and use hand tools.
  • Willingness to learn basic AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
  • Completion of training on digital multimeters, amp clamps, flexible CTs, and battery testing equipment (such as Alber Cellcorder).
  • Understanding of proper use of isolation devices and personal protective equipment (PPE), including Arc-Flash suits.
  • Ability to connect battery strings in series, parallel, and series-parallel configurations.
  • Familiarity with torque values, torque-mark application, and visual inspection of battery installations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification and NFPA-70E Safety Training preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance is preferred.
