SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job):

The Product Engineer I supports the discovery, design, implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement of digital products that protect trusted access to Capital Health systems, data, services, and facilities. The role works within Product Engineering and partners closely with Information Security, Identity and Access Management, Security Operations, Infrastructure, Privacy, Compliance, Risk, Clinical and Business Applications, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Legal, and operational leaders. The position supports a portfolio that may include identity and access management, identity governance and administration, privileged access management, third-party risk management, security operations workflow applications, digital identity and authentication, governance-risk-compliance capabilities, security automation, and AI-enabled Digital Trust products. Assignments may involve vendor platforms, internally developed solutions, integrations, workflow automation, dashboards, copilots, and reusable enterprise capabilities. The role helps convert security, compliance, and operational pain points into clear product capabilities that improve user experience, reduce friction, strengthen controls, and enable reliable healthcare operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Health Informatics, Business Analytics, Product Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required. Master's degree in related field preferred.

Experience: Early-career experience gained through employment, internships, co-op assignments, academic capstone projects, healthcare operations, technology implementations, process improvement, product development, data analysis, business analysis, or cybersecurity initiatives is preferred. Direct cybersecurity experience is not required when the candidate demonstrates strong product aptitude, technical curiosity, structured problem solving, and the ability to learn Digital Trust concepts.

Knowledge and Skills : Working knowledge of product lifecycle concepts, user-centered design, business process analysis, workflow mapping, Agile methods, product backlogs, user stories, acceptance criteria, testing, change management, and outcome measurement. Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, least privilege, Zero Trust, identity lifecycle management, access controls, third-party risk, privacy, auditability, and secure system design is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, organization, analytical thinking, documentation, and collaboration skills are required. Ability to learn tools such as Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, identity governance, privileged access, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, Jira, Microsoft 365, workflow automation platforms, analytics tools, and generative AI solutions.

Special Training : Training in product discovery, Agile product development, design thinking, process mapping, user story development, cybersecurity fundamentals, identity and access management, risk management, AI fundamentals, responsible AI, healthcare privacy, or change management is preferred. Capital Health-specific training will be provided as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Participate in product discovery sessions with Digital Trust stakeholders to understand user needs, business objectives, regulatory obligations, control requirements, operational pain points, risks, and desired outcomes.

• Observes, analyzes, and documents current-state identity, access, third-party risk, security operations, and governance workflows, including manual steps, delays, handoffs, duplicate work, control gaps, and user friction. Contributes to future-state workflow and service designs that improve security, reliability, employee and clinician experience, operational efficiency, auditability, and scalability.

• Help translate security and operational needs into product concepts, product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflow diagrams, decision logs, test scenarios, and release documentation. Support product backlog creation and refinement by organizing features, defects, risks, technical dependencies, compliance obligations, and enhancement requests.

• Participate in feature prioritization, roadmap planning, sprint planning, release planning, and product readiness discussions under the guidance of senior Product Engineers or Product Engineering leadership.

• Partner with IAM, Security Operations, Infrastructure, Privacy, Compliance, Clinical and Business Applications, Software Developers, AI Engineers, Data teams, and vendors to clarify product intent and expected outcomes.

• Coordinate and support product demonstrations, proof-of-concept activities, pilot programs, usability reviews, user acceptance testing, workflow validation, defect triage, and release readiness assessments.

• Develops representative test scenarios for joiner-mover-leaver processes, access requests, approvals, certifications, privileged access, vendor onboarding, risk assessments, security case triage, and related Digital Trust workflows.

• Collect, organize, and analyze user feedback, adoption barriers, support themes, defects, enhancement requests, risk observations, and test results to guide iterative product improvement. Support stakeholder communications, training materials, quick-reference guides, product playbooks, release notes, champion networks, office hours, and adoption activities for new or changed capabilities.

• Identify opportunities to simplify access, reduce unnecessary approvals, automate repetitive tasks, improve identity data quality, strengthen control evidence, and reduce manual security work without weakening safeguards. Identify practical opportunities for AI-assisted work, including access recommendations, risk summarization, security case triage, knowledge retrieval, policy guidance, exception analysis, and workflow automation.

• Work with AI Engineering, Security, Privacy, Legal, and Compliance partners to ensure AI-enabled capabilities follow responsible AI, data protection, security, human oversight, transparency, and validation expectations.

• Support integration and data-mapping discussions involving authoritative identity sources, directories, clinical and business systems, security platforms, vendor data, workflow systems, and analytics environments. Maintain accurate and current product documentation, process maps, requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, test evidence, decision records, release notes, risk and issue logs, and stakeholder approvals.

• Assists in defining and monitoring product measures such as adoption, completion time, approval cycle time, manual effort, automation rate, exception volume, control effectiveness, user satisfaction, error rate, and operational impact. Supports product governance by helping document product ownership, decision rights, control responsibilities, data stewardship, access models, escalation paths, and lifecycle expectations.

• Escalates unresolved decisions, control conflicts, product risks, security concerns, privacy issues, data quality problems, technical dependencies, scope changes, and delivery barriers in a timely manner.

• Protects confidential, proprietary, security-sensitive, employee, vendor, patient, and organizational information and follows established procedures for handling, sharing, and retaining information.

• Builds working knowledge of Digital Trust disciplines, healthcare operations, Capital Health technology, product management, workflow transformation, AI capabilities, and emerging security technologies.

• Participate in post-release reviews and continuous improvement activities to assess whether delivered capabilities achieved intended outcomes and what should be changed in future iterations.

• Contributes to reusable Product Engineering methods, templates, standards, product artifacts, and lessons learned that improve consistency across the Digital Trust portfolio.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
