Do you want to help us build the DNA of tech.? Vishay UltraSource in Hollis, NH is currently seeking applicants for an Equipment Engineer. The Equipment Engineer is a highly hands-on role responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving critical production equipment within a fast-paced, customer-driven thin film job shop environment. This position supports the Sputter Production area and requires a self-directed, experienced engineer capable of independently diagnosing and resolving complex equipment issues with minimal supervision.
This is not a purely project-based role—the Equipment Engineer is expected to be on the floor, actively supporting production, responding to equipment failures, and executing both immediate repairs and long-term corrective actions. Success in this role requires the ability to quickly assess problems, perform robust repairs, and implement sustainable solutions that improve equipment reliability.
A key performance objective is achieving and sustaining a minimum of 95% equipment uptime. The Equipment Engineer plays a critical role in minimizing downtime and ensuring production commitments are met. All work is performed with a strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Job Location:
Hollis, NH is a small suburb in Southern New Hampshire, an hour north of Boston, MA and conveniently located near other major cities and access points in the New England area. Vishay UltraSource has 27,000 sq. ft of manufacturing space and approximately 80 employees working between two shifts.
What you will be doing:
- Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex equipment failures on sputtering and other high-vacuum systems.
- Take ownership of equipment performance, driving both immediate issue resolution and long-term reliability improvements.
- Perform hands-on mechanical and electrical preventive maintenance, repairs, including component replacement, system rebuilds, and adjustments as required.
- Lead root cause analysis efforts and implement effective, sustainable corrective actions—not just temporary fixes.
- Plan and execute equipment upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement projects to increase uptime and process stability.
- Work closely with Process Engineering to support process changes and ensure equipment capability aligns with production requirements.
- Maintain and optimize spare parts strategy to ensure critical components are available and downtime is minimized.
- Execute and improve preventive maintenance programs to proactively reduce equipment failures.
- Provide rapid response support to production, including urgent troubleshooting of down equipment.
- Support EHS compliance through execution of safety-related maintenance tasks and active participation in site safety initiatives, including the Joint Loss Management Committee (JLMC).
- Perform additional duties and projects as required to support business needs.
What you will bring along:
- 5+ years of hands-on equipment engineering or maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (thin film, semiconductor, vacuum systems, or similar highly preferred).
- Strong hands-on experience with high-vacuum systems required; experience with sputtering or other PVD equipment strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of vacuum systems, leak detection, pumps, and deposition equipment operation.
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Demonstrated success in high-uptime, production-critical environments where rapid response is required.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment with shifting priorities.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with a focus on long-term solutions.
- High level of mechanical aptitude and proficiency with tools, instrumentation, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and take full ownership of assigned equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands.
- Effective written communication and documentation skills.
- Willingness and availability to work evenings and/or weekends as business needs require.
What success looks like:
- Becomes the primary technical owner for assigned sputter and vacuum equipment, operating with minimal supervision.
- Quickly builds a deep understanding of equipment performance, failure modes, and production requirements.
- Reduces equipment downtime by improving response time, repair effectiveness, and follow-through on issues.
- Identifies and eliminates repeat failures through thorough root cause analysis and implementation of robust, long-term corrective actions.
- Improves overall equipment uptime and stability, consistently meeting or exceeding the 95% uptime target.
- Establishes effective preventive maintenance practices that proactively reduce unplanned downtime.
- Builds strong working relationships with Production and Process Engineering by consistently delivering reliable support and solutions.
- Demonstrates ownership and accountability for equipment performance, becoming a trusted, go-to resource on the production floor.
