Behavior Specialist - Early Childhood
Job Description:
Utilizes knowledge, skills, and passion to consult and problem-solve with staff, students, and families when students are faced with challenging (either externalizing or internalizing) behaviors. Works as a team with the other Behavior Specialists, Coaches, Coordinators, teachers, school staff, mental health staff, ECE Leadership and related district teams to ensure seamless and developmentally appropriate support through the IMTSS Framework. Collaborates as a skilled consultant with school teams to craft comprehensive functional behavior assessments and behavior plans across a multi-tiered system of supports. This includes observing, analyzing data, identifying lagging skills and current developmental level of functioning, developing student goals based on replacement behaviors, while building on student strengths. Models communication of and implementation of behavior intervention plans. Develops and facilitates training to meet the needs of the department as a whole or more focused to meet the needs of the individual team. Knowledgeable about: response to intervention (RTI) within an Integrated Multi-Tiered System of Support (IMTSS), special education law and processes, managing behavior, and the process utilized when students need additional support.
Must have a vehicle or reliable transportation as travel between sites will be required. Experience Preferred:
- 2-5 years of experience working with preschool-aged children in a behavioral support, early childhood education, special education, or related setting.
- Experience conducting behavioral assessments, including Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Experience coaching and consulting with educators and staff on classroom management and behavior support strategies.
- Prior experience working in multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., collaborating with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists).
- Familiarity with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), or similar evidence-based behavior management strategies is a plus. LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
- Certification in behavior intervention techniques (e.g., ABA, PBIS) is a plus
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred One of the following:
- Special Service Provider License - Social Worker
- Special Service Provider License - Psychologist
- Special Education Generalist License
- Special Service Provider - Speech-Language Pathologist
- Special Service Provider - Occupational Therapist
- Early Childhood Special Education Teacher SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
- Coaching/training ECE staff and teams may be required ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Mostly clean and comfortable
- Normal classroom noise ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional lifting five (5) to ten (10) pounds

- Occasional bending, squatting, or standing Position Specific Information (if Applicable): Responsibilities: Utilize and integrate technology where appropriate to support intervention strategies. Stay current with best practices in early childhood behavior management through professional development and training. Provide direct coaching and consultation to teachers on classroom management strategies and behavior support techniques. Assist in creating and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs) for children with special needs. Maintain accurate documentation and reports on behavioral observations, interventions, and student progress. Support data collection for evaluations and intervention planning by observing, assessing, and analyzing student behaviors, including Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) data, to develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when necessary. Adapt to an evolving educational environment by planning and delivering consultation aligned with current research and strategic initiatives. Travel between sites as needed based on student and program needs. Collaborate with preschool staff, special education providers, mental health staff, coordinators, district staff, and families to develop programming for students with social/emotional and behavioral needs.
