Job Description What You’ll Do Perform multi‑specialty diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to departmental procedures, providing high‑quality care to patients. Operate sonographic equipment independently, conduct examinations, and communicate results. Manage daily operations of the sonographic work area, including patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment. Maintain high ethical standards and pursue ongoing learning in the field. Participate in on‑call shifts as required by location staffing protocols. Perform safety precautions to protect patients and staff, providing necessary equipment and material maintenance. Ensure proper testing orders and examinations are performed. Model professional behavior, encourage courteous service, and contribute to positive public relations. Assist in training and orientation of new sonographers, participation in training evaluation, and mentorship of staff. Contribute to implementation of new testing procedures and demonstration of studies. Assist in financial responsibilities and reimbursement maximization for departmental procedures. Maintain departmental supplies cost‑effectively. Remain competent in profession knowledge and stay informed of institutional policies and technological developments. Participate in committees, meetings, and mandatory education programs. Obtain continuing education credits as required by ARDMS (10 CME/year) and maintain education records. Assist in space planning and service needs with the supervisor. Represent the organization positively through appearance, behavior, and adherence to HIPAA and social media guidelines. Consult with radiologists, surgeons, and staff; interact effectively with physicians, nursing, and technical staff. Communicate with patients and their families with courtesy and respect. Document study anatomy and pathology, prepare preliminary reports, and complete computer‑generated reports and billing information. Participate in quality assurance programs, data collection, and compliance with accreditation requirements. Draft and review clinical protocols, keep informed of technical developments, and attend relevant education sessions. Perform any other related duties as requested. Education Completion of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) or Vascular Technology education required. Experience Experience in general ultrasound, vascular or echocardiography preferred. License/Certification ARDMS or RVT registration required within two years of hire date. Must hold registration in one of the following specialties within two years: AB – Abdomen OB – Obstetrics & Gynecology VT – Vascular Technology BR – Breast Ultrasound BLS certification required. Occasional balancing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, and fit testing. Frequent crouching, typing, reaching, stooping, speaking, walking, grasping, hearing, and repetitive motion. Hazards Frequent exposure to bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogens, and radiation. Working Conditions Occasional odors may occur. Travel Occasional travel may be required, but not regularly.
