Truss Designer

Position is responsible for creating layouts for floor and roof trusses to specification for Residential, Commercial and Agricultural Buildings. The position requires the use of Mitek Software to design trusses and ensure the feasibility of new design.

Essential functions include providing designs on all assigned jobs in a timely manner, solving design/engineering problems through efficient troubleshooting, ensuring economical and proper use of materials, ensuring efficient production according to plant capabilities, maintaining detailed records and reports, demonstrating an effort to maintain an efficient and organized working environment, providing efficient, accurate and economical resolutions to customer complaints, minimizing operating expenses through proficient drafting procedures, effectively communicating with other team members, assisting in training and development of other designers, meeting with job site supervisors to resolve design/engineering issues, maintaining regular and predictable attendance, and making cold calls to generate sales and follow up calls.

Educational requirements include preference for previous related experience, CAD experience, construction and previous truss shop experience, ability to read and understand blueprints, preferred 2-year technical degree or applicable experience, preferred 2 years experience designing optimized projects utilizing Mitek and/or other design related software, general knowledge of construction industry, basic CAD and drafting knowledge, knowledge of engineering fundamentals, ability to anticipate problems and resolve them before they become problems for our customer, strong math skills, ability to calculate tributary loads, concentrated loads and load transfer throughout building, knowledge of current local codes associated with truss design, ability to effectively communicate with architects, engineers, customers, and team members both orally and in writing, fluid in mathematic calculations as they pertain to pricing, and ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management/advisors.
