Actuarial InternThe Actuarial, Underwriting, and Financial Analytics team oversees our finance operations, underwriting, analytics, actuary, corporate development, cost of healthcare, global business services, internal audit services, controller and finance shared services functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield of California.The Actuarial Intern will report to an Actuarial Manager. We are looking for leaders that are energized by creative and critical thinking, building and sustaining high-performing teams, getting results the right way, and fostering continuous learning.ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will:Support the analytics needed to optimize our membership, cost of healthcare, and revenueDevelop tools and exhibits to improve our marketability in our highly competitive environmentLearn or improve upon all coding languages as necessarySupport the analytics needed to understand network configuration scenarios and/or provider contract negotiationDevelop a deep understanding of healthcare industry provider reimbursement structureBe a part of the industry movement towards value-based careGain an understanding of how finance work connects to Blue Shield of California's mission to create a healthcare system that is worthy of our family and friends and sustainably affordableQualificationsYour Knowledge and Experience:Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Actuarial ScienceSerious interest in pursuing an actuarial career by having taken at least 1 actuarial exam prior May 2027Preferred 1-2 years of related professional experience, project, or courseworkA robust analytical skill set (Microsoft Excel proficiency experience is required)Financial acumen and ability to synthesize data into insights and/or reportingAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamStrong relationship management and interpersonal skillsAbility to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlinesHybrid: This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week. Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.Pay: $25.00 per hour for Undergraduate $30.00 per hour for GraduateAbout Our Internships: Our paid internship program is thoughtfully curated to provide students with experience and exposure to the health professional industry.
