The Radar Analog and Power Department is seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer with knowledge of generators, analog electronics, power electronics, power systems, and/or control systems. The ideal candidate possesses a strong combination of design, production, or product support experience with generators, mobile generators, control systems, and power distribution systems.

\n

\n

The department is responsible for design engineering, product and production support in the following areas:

\n

• \n

  Electric Generator controls & operation engineering for wound-field synchronous generators and excitation controls for both stationery and mobile applications in the range of 30 kW to 3000 kW

\n
• \n

  Power System Design - Power System Simulation and Modeling, Solid State Transmitters, Tube Transmitters, High Voltage Design, Power Sources, Generators

\n
• \n

  Power Conversion - AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC, Linear and Switching Supplies, Power Factor Correction (PFC)

\n
• \n

  Power Distribution - Multi-Phase Power Control, Fault Reporting, Protection Circuits, Redundant Systems

\n
• \n

  Protective relay systems for medium size power sub-stations with 4160 Volt to 15 kV main distribution level

\n
• \n

  Power Sub-System Design - Filters, Harmonic Control, EMI, Circuit Simulation, Magnetics, Protective Relay Systems, Short Circuit and Stress Analyses

\n
• \n

  Control Systems – Servo Control Systems, Motor/Power/Process Control, Digital Feedback Systems, 

\n
• \n

  Design of systems using MATLAB Simulink for power system simulations

\n

What You Will Do

\n

\n
• \n

  Work with vendors to optimize generator systems based on system and customer requirements

\n
• \n

  Provide support for legacy generator systems

\n
• \n

  Work closely with a team of engineers and vendors to develop designs based on system performance and operational specifications.

\n
• \n

  Analyze, simulate, test, and document power generation and conversion (and related analog) circuitry. 

\n
• \n

  Work to further our department’s mastery of power generation and help develop related best practices.

\n
• \n

  Resolve production and obsolescence issues related to existing generator product designs

\n
• \n

  Support both in-field and reach-back troubleshooting, subsystem / component / benchtop repairs & regression testing

\n
• \n

  Instrument and collect measurements on equipment (voltage, current, temperature) using electronic test and data acquisition equipment.

\n
• \n

  Present reviews of technical data to program leadership, technical staff, and customer community. Manage related risk discussions. 

\n
• \n

  Lead small teams to success with schedule, budget, and technical execution

\n
• \n

  Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.  Help to understand what opportunities are needed to mature the organization on the technical front.

• \n

  Travel to Tewksbury, MA; Marlborough, MA; Andover, MA; Woburn, MA; and/or Pelham, NH may be required depending on the assignment.

  This 1st shift role will be 100% on-site.

\n

Qualifications You Must Have

\n

\n
• \n

  Requires a Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years’ of prior relevant experience.

\n
• \n

  Minimum of 8 years of experience in power generation, power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub-system design and/or control systems.

\n
• \n

  Experience in modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools.

\n
• \n

  Experience with safety issues related to working with and servicing rotating electromechanical systems and/or high voltage systems greater than 500VAC.

\n

\n

\n

Qualifications We Prefer

\n

\n
• \n

  Fundamental knowledge of different types of electromagnetic rotating machinery (motors and/or generators)

\n
• \n

  Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes such as stator windings, lamination stacking, stator varnishing, and various insulation classes

\n
• \n

  Knowledge of synchronous and induction machine design of motors and generators

\n
• \n

  Electromechanical experience with electric motors and generators, including collaboration with suppliers to identify COTS components and custom modifications as needed

\n
• \n

  Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering

\n
• \n

  Willingness to travel, both around the country and world in support of our programs and customers

\n
• \n

  Hardware development experience in the Department of Defense (DoD) environment

\n
• \n

  Demonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical team

\n
• \n

  Experience generating technical documentation and reports

\n
• \n

  Knowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system components

\n
• \n

  Experience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designs

\n
• \n

  Experience interfacing with DoD customer community

\n
• \n

  Existing security clearance

\n

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.\n
