Project Accounting Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Accounting Manager to join a growing construction company. This role will oversee the project accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, job cost management, and compliance with accounting standards throughout the lifecycle of construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project accounting within the construction industry and hands-on experience using ACS 606

Responsibilities

• Manage the accounting functions for multiple active construction projects from inception through closeout.
• Oversee project setup, budgeting, job cost tracking, and contract administration.
• Review and analyze project costs, ensuring accurate coding and allocation of labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and overhead.
• Prepare and review project billings, change orders, retainage, and revenue recognition.
• Reconcile project financials and investigate cost variances.
• Partner with Project Managers and Operations teams to provide financial insights and support project profitability.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and support forecasting activities.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Mentor and support project accounting staff as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of construction project accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and construction financial processes.
• Hands-on experience with ACS 606 is required.
• Experience managing project billings, change orders, retainage, and contract accounting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
