This position serves a local pharmaceutical company in downtown Indianapolis, and it is as secure as most direct-hire positions. The two CREW employees supporting this department have been contracted  for 24 and 4 years respectively , and the new position is open because of CREW’s reputation!

This role will provide innovative engineering and equipment solutions to support the strategies of internal customers across the global research, development, and manufacturing communities. CREW’s customer integrates new and established technologies (both internally and by utilizing external suppliers) to create world-class solutions for a wide variety of technical challenges.

The  Technical Design Machinist role utilizes the latest technologies to evaluate mechanical drawings and 3D models, generate CAM routines, fabricate components, assemble equipment, and support debug/testing activities. The person in the role is expected to be a proactive technical contributor — not only executing to print but confidently raising manufacturability concerns and design issues directly with engineers and designers at the time of discovery. This position requires proficiency in operating and programming both CNC and manual machine shop equipment, and day-one readiness in Autodesk Inventor CAM and Hurco WinMax CNC operation.

Candidates with less than 3 years of Hurco WinMax CNC operation need not apply.

Basic Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating Hurco WinMax CNC mill/lathe controllers.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a semi-CNC environment across multiple machine types (mills, lathes, 3-axis CNC).
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor CAM: ability to independently set up toolpaths, select feeds and speeds, and generate CNC programs without ramp-up time.
• General computer skills including CAD model navigation (Autodesk Inventor), PDF review, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel), and web navigation.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering detail drawings including GD&T callouts and tolerance specifications.
• Experience machining aluminum and engineering plastics to print; familiarity with stainless steel and specialty plastics (PEEK, Delrin) a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and communicate non-manufacturable or unnecessarily complex design features and work constructively with engineers and designers to resolve them.
• Good communication skills — able to escalate concerns clearly and professionally in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong self-management and problem-solving skills; able to work independently and within a team.

Additional Preferences:

• Familiarity with Autodesk Vault for model management and retrieval.
• Experience with ProtoTRAX lathe programming.
• Experience with Siemens 828-HS (or similar Siemens) CNC control software.
• Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (GMP, FDA, ISO, or similar); knowledge gaps can be addressed during onboarding.
• Experience with industrial manufacturing and assembly equipment.
• Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to contribute beyond core machining tasks.
• Willingness to work overtime when project schedules require.
