Ultrasound Technician-PRN

About the Role The Ultrasonographer is responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. The Ultrasonographer may specialize in obstetric/gynecologic, abdominal, neurosonography, or breast sonography. What You’ll Be Doing Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed. Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view. Spreads gel on the skin to aid in the transmission of sound waves. Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high‑frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. Collects reflected echoes, forming images that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician. Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in a preliminary report for the physicians. Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment. Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. What We Expect from You Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in sonography from an accredited school. Current RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) Certification. Current CPR certification. Minimum of one year of experience working as a certified Ultrasonographer. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: Thorough knowledge in computer information systems. Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be expected.
