Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) - Vassar Brothers Medical Center, NY

Location: Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, New York
Schedule: Per diem, minimum 2 weekend days a month (Saturday & Sunday availability required) ; possible coverage Monday-Friday to supplement flexible schedule, 07:30-16:00
Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour

Summary

Vassar Brothers Medical Center is seeking a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to provide direct patient care across pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations . The PTA will assist Physical Therapists in executing prescribed care plans, ensuring patients achieve maximum functional outcomes. This position is open to candidates with experience in acute care, subacute care, and rehabilitation settings .
Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care to ensure effectiveness of physical therapy programs.
• Manage an assigned patient caseload, providing appropriate treatment and modifications as needed.
• Assist Physical Therapists in re-evaluating patient status and progressing therapy programs.
• Prioritize caseloads and treatment times for maximum efficiency.
• Utilize proper modalities of treatment, recommending variations to protocols when appropriate.
• Recognize contraindications to therapy and consult with supervising therapists as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
• Collaborate with hospital personnel to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
• Support the department's educational environment by providing clinical instruction to PTA students.
• Promote a safe, respectful, and compliant working environment adhering to VBMC and Nuvance Health policies.
• Demonstrate consistent, reliable attendance and model organizational values.

Qualifications

• Active New York State Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license required.
• Experience in acute care, subacute care, or rehabilitation preferred.
• Strong communication, clinical, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to patient-centered care and departmental standards.

Working Conditions

• Manual skills and physical effort required to assist patients in therapy.
• Exposure to hospital environment including noise, odors, and human waste.
• Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
