Preferred Qualifications:

• 21 years of age and in good physical health, capable of moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.
• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, or a genuine desire to learn.
• Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
• Ability to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, push or pull objects, walk, reach, and operate custodian equipment and tools.
• Knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems.
• Ability to use cleaning supplies and equipment economically and efficiently.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Sweeping, vacuuming, buffing, stripping, waxing, and dust mopping assigned areas.
• Removing trash from rooms and buildings and placing in containers and dumpsters.
• Scrubbing and cleaning restrooms, including mirrors, wash basins, commodes, and sinks.
• Filling tissue, towel, and soap dispensers, and disinfecting as needed.
• Dusting furniture, walls, window sills, and other woodwork.
• Stacking cafeteria chairs and/or tables as required.
• Washing windows, walls, and woodwork, dusting venetian blinds.
• Cleaning drinking fountains.
• Cleaning school grounds as needed.
• Mowing lawn, trimming shrubbery, and cultivating flowers using hand tools and power tools.
• Assisting with snow and ice removal, including the operation of a tractor.
• Setting up rooms and spaces for special events.
• Moving furniture, equipment, and supplies.
• Performing basic repair work, including painting, minor plumbing, desk, chair, and locker repairs. Replacing ceiling tiles and light bulbs.
• Cleaning storage rooms and equipment and ordering, unloading, and storing supplies and deliveries from vehicles.
• Checking freezers and coolers to ensure functional operation.
• Checking and securing school premises to protect against vandalism and theft.
• Attending in-service training to develop and improve knowledge and skills in building service work.
• Checking boiler(s) and circulation pump(s) if appropriate.
• Checking exit lights, fire extinguishers, and pull stations.
• Working with HVAC and electrical systems.
• Performing related tasks as assigned by the school principal.
