General Areas of Responsibility:

The Pharmacy Technician supports the daily operations of Pinnacle Family Health Pharmacy by assisting pharmacists in dispensing medications, maintaining accurate patient records, processing prescriptions, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service. The Pharmacy Technician ensures compliance with all federal, state, and organizational regulations while contributing to a safe, efficient, and patient-centered pharmacy environment.

Detailed Areas of Responsibility:

Prescription Processing

A. Receive, enter, and process prescription orders accurately and efficiently.

B. Prepare medications for dispensing under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

C. Assist in obtaining prescription refill authorizations when appropriate.

D. Verify patient demographic and insurance information.

E. Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Customer Service

F. Greet and assist patients in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.

G. Answer incoming telephone calls and direct inquiries appropriately.

H. Provide information regarding prescription status, medication availability, and pharmacy services.

I. Address patient concerns and escalate clinical questions to the pharmacist.

Insurance and Billing

J. Process insurance claims and troubleshoot claim rejections.

K. Coordinate with insurance providers to resolve billing issues.

L. Collect co-payments and maintain accurate payment records.

M. Assist patients with understanding pharmacy benefit coverage.

Inventory Management

N. Maintain adequate medication and supply inventory levels.

O. Receive, stock, and organize pharmaceutical inventory.

P. Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated medications according to policy.

Q. Assist with controlled substance inventory and documentation requirements.

Compliance and Quality Assurance

R. Adhere to all federal, state, and pharmacy regulations.

S. Maintain accurate records and documentation.

T. Follow established safety and infection control procedures.

U. Participate in pharmacy audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.

V. Ensure compliance with Pinnacle Family Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

A. Ability to think, read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals across the organization.

B. Possesses a strong understanding of HIPAA regulations. Must have expertise using Microsoft Office software suite required.

C. Possesses detail oriented and managing complex projects and multiple tasks.

D. Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and ensure confidentiality.

E. Treats clients, staff, volunteers, board members, etc. with dignity and respect.

F. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others in the workplace.

H. Must be detail oriented and able to manage complex projects and multiple tasks.

I. Offer assistance to coworkers as needed.

Education and/or Experience:

A. High school diploma or equivalent required; BS/BA preferred.

B. Current Pharmacy Technician registration/certification as required by the State of Louisiana.

C. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or ExCPT) preferred or obtained within a designated timeframe.

D. Minimum one (1) year of pharmacy technician experience preferred.

E. Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication names, and dosage forms.

F. Experience with pharmacy management software and electronic health records preferred.

G. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
