UW Health is an integrated academic health system affiliated with the University of Wisconsin- Madison. We collaborate with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health to advance patient care, research, education and community service to patients from across the U.S. and around the word. UW Health also engages the community through high profile partnerships with the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin-Madison women’s athletics. Reporting directly to Alan Kaplan, MD, Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will serve as a key strategic partner to the executive leadership team, board, physician leaders, and colleagues across the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and the broader university. The successful candidate will inherit a financially strong organization and play a central role in helping UW Health continue its growth trajectory while strengthening the financial, operational and strategic foundations necessary to support UW Health’s mission. Beyond financial stewardship, the CFO will help guide enterprise priorities including operational performance, capital deployment, strategic growth, partnerships and continued integration across UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. Success will require a trusted relationship builder who can navigate the complexities of academic medicine, foster alignment among diverse stakeholders, and balance mission, margin, and long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate will combine financial rigor with humility, integrity, and exceptional interpersonal skills. They will be equally comfortable engaging physician leaders, faculty, operational teams, and governing boards, while helping the organization navigate an increasingly dynamic health care environment. As UW Health continues to expand its reach and impact, the CFO will have a unique opportunity to strengthen organizational discipline, modernize financial operations, and help position the enterprise for its next era of growth and leadership in academic medicine. Candidates should bring significant executive financial leadership experience within a complex health care environment.
