SUPV, HIM CODING INPATIENT
Location: Milwaukee, WI / Remote (Eligible candidates must reside in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, or Utah)
Duration: 6+ Months Contract-to-Hire
Position Summary: We are seeking a SUPV, HIM CODING INPATIENT. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic and innovative healthcare environment. The position offers the flexibility of working remotely for eligible candidates, and the contract portion is expected to last approximately six months, with potential for early hire based on performance and fit.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operations of the inpatient coding team, including staff scheduling, workflow analysis, productivity, and quality monitoring.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in inpatient coding, guiding staff on coding guidelines and abstracting appropriate information based on standard classification systems.
- Collaborate with CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement) professionals and Physician Advisors to resolve challenging inpatient cases.
- Conduct coding audits, ensure data quality, and prepare complex reports as required.
- Maintain and apply robust knowledge of inpatient coding conventions, including CMS regulations and ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines.
- Oversee coding department operations such as productivity, quality assurance, and scheduling.
- Utilize Epic and other healthcare systems to support coding activities and monitor workflow.
Key Skills
- Extensive inpatient coding knowledge, including CMS and ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines.
- Strong understanding of healthcare management, workflow analysis, and scheduling.
- Proficiency in Epic, 3M, and other relevant systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree in health information technology OR Associate's degree and one (1) year of coding-related work experience.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of inpatient coding experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or lead inpatient coding experience.
- Experience managing productivity and quality in an inpatient coding department.
- Proficient with Epic software.
- Knowledge of 3M software is beneficial.
- Certifications (at least one required):
- AHIMA-Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
- AHIMA-Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
- AHIMA-Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
- AAPC-Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Healthcare Management, Health Information, or a related field.
- Experience in an Academic Medical Center or multi-hospital system.
- Coding audit experience.
- CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement) experience.
- Prior experience as a coding supervisor with strong analytics, project management, and decision-making skills.
