Overview of the Urgent Care Physician Position:

The Urgent Care Physician (UCP) plays a vital role in fulfilling the healthcare mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Services will be offered from Monday to Saturday, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with potential adjustments based on facility needs. The UCP will also participate in a backup call schedule during emergencies, disaster situations, and shift coverage needs. Occasionally, the UCP may be required to cover night or overnight shifts during such events.

Collaboration with other medical services is essential, and the UCP may engage in projects aligned with their specialty, expertise, and interests, adhering to VA directives and policies. These initiatives may support research or respond to requests from the Medical Center Director or Chief of Staff.

The ideal candidate must be a board-certified or board-eligible physician in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine, having completed a qualifying residency. Experience in urgent care or emergency department settings is preferred. The UCP should demonstrate proficiency in higher acuity practice standards and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Additionally, participation in pandemic-related patient care is mandatory, regardless of age, medical conditions, or personal risk factors.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver prompt and effective evaluation and treatment of acute medical conditions in an urgent care environment.

• Order, conduct, and interpret necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

• Coordinate with primary care providers, specialists, and ancillary staff for follow-up and continuity of care.

• Engage in multidisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.

• Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation in accordance with VA standards.

• Mentor and educate resident physicians, medical students, and support staff as appropriate.

• Provide compassionate, veteran-centered care with sensitivity to Hawaii's diverse populations.
