Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Power System Protection Engineer to join its Protective Relay Settings team. This role is responsible for developing relay settings, supporting Protection & Control (P&C) design activities, and performing power system analysis using industry-standard software to deliver accurate and reliable protection solutions.
Job Description
- Develop protective relay settings, including line, transformer, breaker, and bus protection
- Perform relay setting calculations and develop setting files using industry-standard software
- Support Protection & Control (P&C) design activities, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring
- Conduct power system analysis and modeling using software such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM
- Apply industry protection schemes and philosophies for transmission, distribution, and renewable collector substations
- Utilize Mathcad and Excel to perform protective relay setting calculations
- Configure and support communication protocols such as DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus, including IEC 61850 implementation
- Ensure compliance with NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards
- Coordinate with clients and internal teams while preparing technical documentation
- Lead small projects, including managing schedules, budgets, staffing, and proposal development
- Perform quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) reviews
- Mentor and support the development of early-career engineering professionals
Skills Required
- 5–10 years of experience in the transmission industry
- Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of Protection & Control (P&C) design concepts
- Experience developing protective relay settings and setting files
- Proficiency with power system modeling software, including ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM
- Experience using Mathcad and Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations
- Knowledge of communication protocols, including DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus
- Knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and its implementation
- Knowledge of NERC-PRC and other applicable industry standards
- Excellent written communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience leading small projects, including schedule, budget, and resource management
- Experience supporting proposal development
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Experience performing QC/QA reviews
Education/Training/Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required
