Sr Environmental Specialist - San Diego, CA

BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist to support its San Diego Maritime Solutions shipyard site. The role is on‑site at San Diego, California. Primary Roles & Responsibilities: Develop and maintain the programs and procedures necessary to meet all environmental compliance obligations. Implement comprehensive data collection and record‑keeping processes, utilizing EMS auditing and multimedia inspections to verify the adequacy of regulatory information. Analyze environmental data and records to assess the adequacy, accuracy, and completeness of information as required for all regulatory programs, including EMS, air quality, wastewater, drinking water, stormwater, NPDES, hazardous waste, SPCC, over‑water transfers, and others. Prepare environmental reports, environmental data tables, permit applications and amendments, and other regulatory data for submission to corporate office and upload to corporate, local, state, and federal regulatory databases. Develop, implement, and maintain pollution prevention and waste minimization programs. Conduct waste determinations and classifications to ensure proper handling, disposal, and waste reduction aligned with corporate sustainability objectives. Liaise with regulatory, corporate, subcontractor, and customer personnel as required. Required Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in the Environmental/Health/Safety field and four years of related work experience or overall equivalent experience. Significant knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to environmental matters. Knowledgeable in chemistry of hazardous materials/waste, training in hazardous waste management (California and RCRA), with practical skills in hazardous waste characterization. Experience with data analysis and calculations/quantification. Knowledge/expertise in evaluating laboratory reports, including use of appropriate methods, reporting limits, and results, and application against site requirements. Knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems, including auditing experience. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint). Physically able to board ships and navigate spaces of all sizes to conduct inspections and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Ability to obtain DBIDS access to Naval Facilities. Experience working within a shipyard or manufacturing environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related industry software applications. Preferred Qualifications: ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Certification. Master’s Degree in a related field. Pay Information: Full‑time salary range: $82,779 – $140,723. This range reflects market pay structures; final compensation will consider business factors, local market conditions, internal equity, and individual qualifications.
