Certified Nurse Midwife

The UAB Division of Women's Reproductive Health is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), to provide full-scope midwifery care. Functions include conducting history and physical exams for low-risk obstetric patients and well-woman gynecologic visits, evaluating and managing OB and GYN complaints in the outpatient setting. The CNM will also provide inpatient management of low-risk labor and birth, intrapartum support, and immediate postpartum care. The CNM will work both autonomously and in collaboration with other APP's and physicians. Experience is preferred but not required. Must be professional, caring, dependable, a team player, and multi-task oriented. Responsibilities include performing procedures such as initial management of obstetrical emergencies, suturing of first and second degree lacerations, endometrial and vulvar biopsies, IUD insertion and removal, and Nexplanon insertion and removal. Additionally, the CNM will participate in the education and supervision of junior residents, offering clinical instruction and guidance in labor and birth management.

To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to neonatal patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician or under supervision of a Board Certified Physician. To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed. To perform comprehensive physical examination and assessments. To interpret, analyze and evaluate patient's medical record and social data. To perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement. To coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.

Master's degree in Nursing with Certified Nurse Midwife certification required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
