Paraprofessional: Medical Assignment

Position: Paraprofessional - Medical Assignment Reports to: Building Administrator Employment Status: Regular/Full-time - 7 hours/day - 181 work days and 8 paid holidays (189 days) FLSA Status: Classified/Employed through the Educational Service Center of Central & Ohio Council of Governments Description This paraprofessional role will support student medical needs including but not limited to: restrooms/ changing/ diapering, tube feeding, first aide, medicine administration. Preferred qualifications include experience or training in personal/ medical care. In addition, the role will support student safety, growth, and learning under the direction of the Intervention Specialist, and evaluated by the building administrator. Responsibilities include implementing components of students' IEPs, providing individual and group instruction, utilizing de‑escalation strategies, and assisting with instructional materials and student data collection. Candidates must have a high school diploma and either an Associate's degree or a passing score on the Paraprofessional assessment. Preferred qualifications include experience working with children and crisis de‑escalation certification. Qualifications High School diploma required An Associate's degree OR received a passing score on the Paraprofessional assessment OR obtain a passing score on the Paraprofessional assessment within four months of hire Completion certificate from OCALI (Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence) for "Strategies in Action" online module within four months of employment Such alternatives to the above as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent Preferred Experience working with children Trained and certified in a crisis de‑escalation intervention Note: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance. Essential Functions Ensure the safety of students. Serve as a role model for students. Implement IEP (Individualized Education Program) modifications and accommodations as directed by staff in order to maximize inclusion, learning, and student growth. Work with students individually, in small groups, or in whole groups to implement assigned programs and curriculum, reinforce, and re‑teach. Utilize strategies (including restorative practices) to build student independence, agency, and self‑advocacy Follow the district‑selected protocol and procedures for de‑escalation and intervention. Utilize and provide feedback on instructional strategies as aligned to the individual needs of students. Provide observational/assessment data aligned to students' IEPs, as designed and instructed by Intervention Specialists and Related Services Personnel. Communicate student information with Intervention Specialists so they can communicate with families and IEP team members. Assist Intervention Specialists and staff in the preparation of instructional materials. Communicate effectively with the general education classroom teacher and staff pertinent to that student's team. Maintain respect at all times for student/personnel confidential information. Perform health care procedures, which may include first aid, toileting, diapering, clothing changes, tube feeding, and other duties deemed necessary. Attend provided opportunities for training and professional development. Additional Working Conditions May occasionally be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. Must follow all safety guidelines for bloodborne pathogens. Frequent interruption of tasks to support students, visitors, staff, and telephone. Must occasionally work nights/extended days due to school functions. Must be able to assist others and move around the school and grounds. Must be able to lift and move 40 lbs. Repetitive hand motion (e.g., keyboard, typing) or voice‑to‑text.
