Septic Vacuum Truck Driver & Technician (CDL Required)

Vacuum Truck Operator (Septic Tank Pumper) — Build a Career, Not Just a Job

Do you like people — talking with them, putting them at ease, being the person they're glad showed up at their door? Are you the kind of person who takes pride in doing physical work the right way, and who'd rather be outside solving a real problem than stuck behind a desk?

Join the #1 team in the #2 business. At Van Delden Wastewater Systems, our Vacuum Truck Operators are the face of our company out on the road. Every stop is a chance to introduce yourself, take care of someone's property like it's your own, and leave them better off than you found them. It's relationship-driven work — the instincts of a great salesperson, without a quota, or commission hanging over your head. You show up, you do the job right, you treat people well, and you're rewarded for it.

We're not the best septic company just because we're the oldest — we're the oldest because we're still the best. Family-owned and operated since 1937, we've been going strong for 89 years, and we're closed nights and weekends so you can actually have a life outside of work. No experience? No diploma? No problem. We'll teach you a valuable, respected trade — and no more over-the-road CDL driving. You're home every night.

Why CDL Drivers Build a Career Here

• $50,000–$72,000 per year, depending on hours worked and incentives earned

• Entry-level: ~$4,000/month
• Mid-level (with incentives): ~$5,000/month

What You'll Actually Do

Think of yourself as part driver, part hands-on tradesperson, part trusted face of the company:

• Start your day at the shop yard between 4:45 and 7:30 AM, gather your tools, and head to your first scheduled job
• Arrive at a customer's home, introduce yourself, and get any needed authorizations — first impressions matter
• Locate and dig up buried septic tank lids with a shovel up to 2 feet deep
• Run a 30–200 foot vacuum hose and pump out the tank, then inspect key components before covering the lid back up
• Treat every yard and property with respect throughout the job
• Complete service forms, collect payment, and log everything on your work-issued tablet
• Communicate clearly with customers and the office, and bring a great attitude — a smile goes a long way
• Dump the truck at the treatment plant once or twice a day depending on volume

The Truck You'll Drive: A Kenworth 4,000-gallon tanker truck — manual transmission.

You'll get a little dirty. You'll also go home every day knowing you kept families' homes running safely — and that how you treat a customer today is directly tied to how you're rewarded tomorrow.

Your Schedule

Monday – Friday. No nights, no weekends. Home daily, year-round work. Start time: 4:45–7:30 AM (depending on whether the truck needs emptying first). End time varies by day's workload — typically between 2 and 6 PM. Overtime available.
