Senior Government Relations Specialist

Role/Department Summary The Senior Government Relations Specialist will help support and lead state-level engagement with the legislature and the executive branch, and advocate for policy changes that advance pediatric care and children's health and well-being in the community. The Senior Specialist will have additional responsibility for managing grassroots advocacy efforts, including action alerts and legislative updates, as well as developing and delivering policy advocacy trainings to a range of audiences. This role will report to the Director of State Government Relations. Responsibilities Coordinate the development and execution of the legislative agenda for each legislative session with the guidance and support of senior staff. Ensure that the priorities of key internal and external stakeholders are reflected in the agenda and identify opportunities to advance the agenda. Monitor and advance budget and appropriations priorities. Arrange, set agendas for, and participate in meetings with policymakers and community leaders Support senior staff in building and maintaining relationships with state elected officials and civic/business/community organizations intersecting with Boston Children's community engagement and policy priorities. Develop and advance advocacy plans and approaches around specific pieces of legislation, including substantive drafting of bill language for legislative and regulatory priorities. Responsibility for submitting responses, creating presentations, and drafting memos to inform, educate, and support other team members and departments Create high-level content for Government Relations internal and external advocacy communications and pediatric policy issues. Develop documents, meeting materials, and presentations, and proofread and edit materials for content, messaging, formatting, and grammar. Support existing and new distribution channels for Government Relations messaging to internal and external audiences. Represent the hospital in partner coalitions aligned with Boston Children's policy priorities by attending events, providing feedback, responding to requests, and coordinating Boston Children's leadership, staff, and family participation in coalition events, legislative hearings, working groups, educational sessions, and advocacy initiatives. Oversee the coordination and logistical planning for signature hospital advocacy events, both virtually and in-person. Plan and coordinate educational tours of the hospital for elected officials. Coordinate the involvement of clinicians and hospital leadership in events and tours to convey hospital priorities effectively. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience in a government or advocacy organization setting or a related Masters' degree plus 3 years of related experience Experience Strong analytic and writing skills, including ability to write clear and effective briefing papers, fact sheets and memoranda for a range of audiences including legislators and hospital leadership Ability to research, analyse, synthesise information, and offer opinions on policy proposals pertinent to the hospital and organization's mission Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team and across multiple disciplines within the hospital Organisational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritise and complete various projects simultaneously Knowledge and or experience with government agencies and the legislative and regulatory processes Certification/Registration Required State Lobbying registration The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good‑faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
