Senior Software Engineer

Employment Type Full-time Exempt or Non-Exempt Exempt Job Summary Hybrid Work Environment – Must reside in Hawaii. Provides expert-level technical support for application systems and domains, coordination and prioritization of support for assigned application systems, which are typically non-mission critical, smaller, and less complex than those assigned to the Application Lead. Works on multiple projects providing subject‑matter expertise and technical direction, leads technical component development, and may manage small to medium‑sized technical projects of moderate complexity. Pay Range $86,500 – $179,500 Note Individuals typically begin between the minimum and middle of the pay range. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related computer or engineering field and five years of systems analysis and programming experience. May substitute a higher level of degree and less work experience. A broad understanding of information systems and application architecture standards. Advanced to expert level knowledge of application and systems design, programming techniques, and distributed system architecture, middleware, or object‑oriented analysis and design. Typically requires three years of application development and support work experience; project management experience is desirable. Expert-level knowledge of multiple technologies and detailed knowledge of multiple business segments. Duties And Responsibilities Responsible for analysis, design, modeling and architecture for application systems and domains; manage maintenance and support of assigned application system(s); may participate in development, maintenance, and support activities. Lead or participate in the project planning process with clients, business analysts, and team members; manage or participate in technical and business planning for future direction of the application domain. Manage or participate in short‑ and long‑term planning sessions with clients to improve business processes; document discussion and agreements. Receive high‑level business requirements and develop detailed requirements; prioritize efforts. Refine resource requirements, form project teams, and further define estimates for financial, physical or human resources to support long‑term projects and programs. Lead small to medium‑sized, moderately complex projects; provide work direction and leadership following HMSA's project management methodology. Review and provide input to the requirements for the implementation of business solutions; provide technical assistance for problem resolution. Identify system requirements, devise or modify procedures to solve problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, desired results, and integration of components; be responsible for the overall health of all assigned applications. Comply with application architecture processes, principles, policies, and standards; provide input to architecture policies and standards for application systems and domains. Make buy‑vs‑build recommendations; provide input into evaluation of system options, risk, cost versus benefit, and impacts on business processes and goals. Lead or participate in the evaluation and selection process for application packages within the area of responsibility. Design complex solutions for application systems and domains; participate in the identification of system requirements and work with the Application Lead to solve application problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations. Develop technical specifications for applications; serve as technical subject‑matter expert for development of new code or reuse of existing code. Identify best sources of data and work with data architects to ensure feasibility with corporate data sources. Analyze integrated performance across multiple ETL components; recommend improvements to system processes to maximize efficiency; participate in identification of best data sources. Research, recommend, and apply middleware to facilitate portability and scalability of applications; utilize middleware tools for designing and developing solutions as required. Develop or modify application components using disciplined software development processes; may participate in code walk‑throughs as needed or if system problems require it. Comply with quality standards and procedures; participate in software inspections and quality reviews; participate in defining development guidelines and standards for software development and integration. Conduct unit testing to ensure application meets specifications; create integration test plans; design and consult on test plans at all levels within the application domain. Document changes to application architecture, integration, and conversion plans; maintain architecture diagrams within the application domain. Provide ongoing maintenance of applications. Analyze existing application domain to identify and document opportunities for improvement. Make integrated components production ready by moving them to libraries, completing forms, following procedures, completing version control documents, etc. Provide Tier II (application) support; may provide Tier III support; troubleshoot existing systems to identify errors or deficiencies and develop solutions. Provide application support as required in the absence of the Application Lead. May provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members; provide technical guidance; develop reports and presentations for senior management; may be assigned the role of Team Lead which involves resource planning and making work assignments. Mentor junior positions to increase core systems knowledge and HMSA IT best practices. For assigned application systems, participate in technical planning. #J-18808-Ljbffr HMSA
