Hours: Variable shift start and end. 8‑hour shift, 8/40 hours per week. Weekend requirement: as needed. On‑call: required. Pay range: $53.57 – $69.12 – $77.41. This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with SEIU‑UHW. Employees in this role are required to join the union within 31 days of hire and remain a member for the duration of the agreement. What You Will Do The Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Dual Mode Single‑photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and Dual Mode Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Technologist is responsible for performing routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the direction/supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer and Physician Authorized Users. Responsibilities include: operating nuclear medicine instruments, preparing and positioning patients, preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, and operating imaging equipment (SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT). Use radiation safety practices and perform required quality control procedures on all equipment. Prepare, administer, document and maintain quality control of radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with regulatory requirements. Assist staff with patient care post‑administration and ensure safe disposal of radioactive waste. Required Qualifications Satisfactory completion of a formal training program in an AMA‑approved school for Nuclear Medicine technology that meets the State of California and/or Federal certification requirements. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals (BLS) – REQUIRED. California Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) certification – REQUIRED. Certified Nuclear Medicine Technology (N)(ARRT) or ARRT/NMTCB CNMT – REQUIRED. Certified Computed Tomography (CT)(ARRT) or Certified CT Technology NMTCB(CT) – REQUIRED. Preferred Qualifications At least 2 years of experience in radiology. Certification in CT within 90 days of hire date. Essential Functions Customer Service Provide patients, families and colleagues with excellent customer service skills. Use AIDET (acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation, thank) with each encounter. Provide service recovery if expectations are not met. Documentation, Tracking, and Billing Accurately and timely complete required documentation in the RIS. Screen, document pregnancy status, radiation dose, and clinical indications. Document and bill for supplies and/or contrast and enter correct billing codes and modifiers. Demonstrate competency in computer applications including RIS, PACS, voice recognition, teleradiology. Communicate equipment, employee, supply, adverse incidents, and Workers' Compensation issues to Lead/Supervisor. Patient Education Provide information and education of the procedure to the patient and family. Screen and document patient pregnancy status and radiation protection efforts. Describe effects of contrast administration. Provide pre and post‑procedure education. Provide training regarding radiation safety and waste precautions. Use chaperone when appropriate. Quality of Care Demonstrate commitment to safe, efficient quality care. Verify patient using two identifiers and verify order. Associate patient to images and ordered procedure. Escalate inconsistencies and discrepancies with ordering clinician. Document order changes or modifications. Protect patient confidentiality. Participate and document the Universal Protocol. Assist Radiologist with procedure preparation and sterile technique. Participate in hand‑off communication and change escalation. Follow safe patient mobilization procedures. Use translation or phone services for patients who speak another language. Quality Exams Perform high‑quality NM and Dual Mode SPECT and PET procedures in compliance with policies. Operate equipment safely and follow protocols. Understand protocols and optimize scan parameters. Use Image Wisely/Image Gently training. Secure valuables and implanted devices. Demonstrate radiation dose awareness and report exceedances. Accurately transfer images to PACS. Radiation Safety Follow all radiation safety and regulatory requirements. Confirm order, delivery, storage and decay of isotopes under supervision. Record use and disposition in NMIS. Label isotope and verify prescribed activity. Document waste precautions. Follow established procedures for blood withdrawal and re‑injection. Practice ALARA principles and screen patients for contraindications. Wear personal dosimeters and lab coat. Complete daily surveys and participate in safety committees. Perform equipment testing, calibration, maintenance and infection prevention. Perform quality control as required. Follow equipment disinfection procedures. Staff Training and Professional Development Assist in training and orientation of new employees and students. Provide feedback on student progress.
