Work Shift: Night (United States of America) Assistant Nurse Manager We are seeking an Assistant Nurse (RN) Manager for the Emergency Department at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. This is a full‑time night shift position (7 pm – 7 am) with three 12‑hour shifts and rotating weekend responsibilities. The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who works in conjunction with the nurse manager of a specific unit or service. The role is designed for individuals aspiring to become a nurse manager and provides learning through experience and mentorship. The Assistant Nurse Manager must possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, serve as a mentor, and learn the responsibilities of the role. Together with the nurse manager, the assistant uses knowledge and skills to promote a center of excellence for staff recruitment, retention, and clinical and business outcomes. The assistant nurse manager upholds direction from the nurse manager, actively leads staff in daily activities, participates in performance reviews, and provides coaching and counseling. In collaboration with the nurse manager, the assistant holds staff accountable for the delivery of care and services through effective communication, observation, and measurement of specific interventions and their outcomes. This key leader assists the nurse manager in achieving clinical and financial goals and manages human/material resources as delegated. The assistant also plays a pivotal role in staff recruitment, mentoring, and retention, and models teamwork with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments. Role specific competencies, responsibilities, roles, and functions are based on the Professional Practice Model, 5 Star Nursing. All Assistant Nurse Managers are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act. They implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, follows system policies and procedures, and supports service excellence goals. Required Minimum Education Must hold a Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing school. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred. If bachelor’s degree is not in nursing, an MSN must be from an accredited nursing school. Required Minimum Licensure/Certification Registered Nurse, actively licensed in the state of Georgia. BLS & ACLS from the American Heart Association. National certification in nursing administration preferred. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred. Required Minimum Experience Three years of clinical experience required. Additional experience as a charge nurse or other nurse leader role desirable. Required Minimum Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building. Desire to pursue progressive nursing management roles and enjoy opportunities to coach and mentor others. Commitment to learning and demonstrating progressive skills in the business of managing a patient care unit or service, including understanding healthcare financing, strategy, and operations. Proficiency in using data and technology to support work processes and make decisions. Experience with shared governance or shared decision making; ability to design and deliver evidence‑based care focused on quality and safety. Interest and aptitude for risk management and various accreditation, regulation, and licensing requirements.
