Program Information: Longleaf Lodge is part of the Longleaf Recovery and Wellness network,
dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based addiction treatment in Alabama. Nestled
in Sterrett, AL, the facility offers a healing environment designed to support patients through
every stage of recovery - from acute medical detoxification through clinically managed
residential treatment. Our programs are built on ASAM Criteria, trauma-informed principles, and
a genuine commitment to person-centered, equity-focused care. As a newly established program,
this is a rare opportunity to shape the clinical vision of a growing organization from day one.

Position Summary: The Medical Director provides clinical and administrative leadership across
Longleaf Lodge's full SUD continuum - a 10-bed ASAM Level 3.7 Medical Detoxification unit
and a 50-bed ASAM Level 3.5 Clinically Managed High-Intensity Residential program. This

culture of the organization. This position is ideal for a board-certified physician in Internal
Medicine or Family Medicine with meaningful addiction medicine experience who is ready to
lead.

This position may be filled on either a full-time or part-time basis. Compensation as a 1099
independent contractor (part-time or full-time) may be considered; however, W-2 employment is
strongly preferred.
The schedule for this position is Monday- Friday and includes one working weekend a month.

Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as physician of record for all detox and residential patients
• Manage acute withdrawal syndromes using CIWA-Ar, COWS, and PAWSS protocols
• Prescribe and oversee MAT (buprenorphine, naltrexone, methadone referrals)
• Directly supervise and collaborate with 2 Advanced Practice Providers (NPs/PAs)
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical rounds
• Serve as designated Medical Director for ADMH, TJC, and CARF surveys
• Provide weekend coverage one weekend per month (telehealth or in-person)
• Collaborate with senior leadership on strategy and program development
• Ensure compliance with APMP, 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, and DEA regulations
• Promote trauma-informed, person-centered, recovery-oriented care culture

Qualifications:

Required:
• MD or DO from an accredited institution
• Current, unrestricted Alabama medical license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine (ABIM) or Family Medicine
(ABFM)
• Current DEA registration with Schedule II–V prescribing authority
• Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in SUD, addiction medicine, or closely
related field
• Experience supervising Advanced Practice Providers (NPs and/or PAs)
• Current BLS/ACLS certification

Preferred:
• Addiction Medicine board certification or significant experience in addiction medicine
• Prior experience in inpatient detoxification or residential SUD settings
• Familiarity with ASAM Levels of Care 3.5 and 3.7
• Experience with TJC, CARF, or state behavioral health regulatory surveys

The above job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the
position. Incumbents will follow any other instructions, and perform any other related duties, as
assigned by their supervisor
