Founding Engineer

Our client, an AI-driven startup within the health finance industry, is hiring a Founding Engineer to join the team in San Francisco. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s product strategy, technical architecture, customer experience and overall growth trajectory, all while developing cutting-edge AI solutions that address complex, real-world challenges across the healthcare ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and launch customer-centric product features, taking ideas from initial concept through to production deployment.

• Create scalable AI-driven solutions, intelligent automation capabilities and next-generation healthcare technology platforms.

• Partner directly with customers to understand business challenges, gather requirements and deliver high-impact solutions.

• Take full ownership of the software development lifecycle, including solution architecture, development, testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.

• Develop and optimize applications leveraging APIs, Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic AI frameworks and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technologies.

• Help shape the product roadmap and play a key role in strategic technical decision-making as an early member of the engineering team.

• Work closely with the founders to establish engineering best practices, influence company culture and contribute to the long-term vision of the business.

Skillset

• At least 2 years of experience designing, building and delivering full-stack applications from concept through to production.

• Proven expertise working with APIs, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI-powered solutions and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) frameworks.

• Hands-on experience developing and orchestrating agentic AI workflows, automation solutions, and autonomous systems.

• Strong proficiency in React, coupled with a keen eye for product design, usability and user experience.

• Experience with Go, PostgreSQL and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Previous exposure to healthcare, emergency medical services (EMS), 911 operations, insurance or medical billing environments is beneficial.

• NREMT certification or practical EMS experience is a plus but not essential.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to collaborate directly with customers and key stakeholders.

• Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of projects in a high-growth startup environment.
