CITY OF CLEVELAND POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POLICE OFFICER

The City of Cleveland is accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in a career in law enforcement to compete for the position of police officer. Qualified applicants must have a high school education or state recognized equivalent must be 21 years of age must have a valid drivers license must be required to undergo post-offer medical and psychological exams including drug screen and must conform to other standards as set forth in T.C.A..

Applicants will progress through pre-employment testing procedures and successful candidates will be selected as positions become available. Pre-employment procedures consist of:

1) Written exam measuring basic skills in reading comprehension math grammar punctuation spelling report writing;

2) Physical readiness exam consisting of:
a. Starting from a seated position in a patrol vehicle the participant (wearing a vest and duty belt) will exit the patrol vehicle and run one-hundred and fifty (150) feet take cover and dry fire a weapon.
b. The participant will then run one hundred (100) feet up a small hill.
c. The participant will then run one hundred (100) feet and scale a 4 ft. wall then run through six (6) tires.
d. The participant will then run fifty (50) feet and move three (3) buckets from one marked spot to another and then continue running and jump over a small ditch.
e. The participant will then run one hundred and fifty (150) feet and go under a
fence/barricade.
f. The participant will then run one hundred (100) feet to a sled/dummy.
g. The participant will then drag the sled/dummy fifty (50) feet past a marked finish line. Pass time 1:30

3) Ride-along with certified officer and written assessment of events observed during ride-along;

4) Structured oral interview process;

5) Background investigation.

Applications who have obtained an Associates Degree or higher from a Department of Education recognized Regionally Accredited College or University have served full-time for 2 or more years in the military or is currently POST certified will have the written exam waived.
