What you will be doing:
As part of a dedicated maintenance crew, this position helps keep State highways and airports safe and operational year-round. Duties include operating and maintaining heavy and light equipment, maintaining roads, vegetation, signs, bridges, culverts, drainage structures, bike paths, and other State right-of-way assets, as well as performing traffic control and flagging. This position performs work across a variety of maintenance activities and may require shift work.

This vacancy may be filled at either the Equipment Operator 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class. COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382. Equipment Operator Journey 2- A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire . A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment. Equipment Operator Journey 1- A Class B Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire . A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for this position. A conditional hire approval can be given to applicants that do not yet possess a Class A CDL. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain a Class A CDL within 180 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

All terminal employees are required to obtain a TWIC in order to work in certain restricted areas of the terminals.
