Job Summary


The Lifeguard is responsible for providing a safe and supportive environment in all aquatic-based programming throughout the summer for youth and adults with disabilities and chronic illness.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Supervises scheduled pool times and waterfront activities during both weekdays and weekends.
• Monitors and facilitates activities such as swimming, canoeing, fishing, pontoon boat rides and jumps, waterskiing, and scuba diving for youth and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
• Ensures patron safety.
• Conducts routine cleaning and chemical testing.
• Prepares and stows equipment.
• Assists with ongoing equipment checks to maintain the highest level of safety.
• Conducts and documents equipment inventories reporting any maintenance needs to the Waterfront Director.
• Follows all American Red Cross (or equivalent) lifeguard training standards, American Camp Association standards, Bradford Woods Aquatics Operating Procedures, General Policies/Procedures, and the Emergency Action Plan.

Qualifications


EDUCATION


Required

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

Preferred

• Some college experience

WORK EXPERIENCE


Preferred

• Previous Lifeguard experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES


Required

• American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard Certification including waterfront portion required

Working Conditions / Demands


This is an active, hands-on role that requires physical mobility and stamina. This includes frequently positioning oneself at lower levels and moving about the workspace, and occasionally moving objects up to 50 pounds. Transfers and team-lifts of campers may also be required. This position requires the ability to move and transfer equipment, as well as adapt to a position that is both physically and emotionally engaging. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Positions require working both indoors and outdoors in potentially high or low temperatures with loud noises at times.


Some overnight duties are required due to the residential nature of our camps.


Additional Information


Lifeguard certification training, including waterfront certification, will be provided May 12-16, 2026.

Advertised Salary


$20.00 per hour

Work Hours


Hourly lifeguards are scheduled on an as needed basis.

A typical program day runs from after breakfast until before dinner. As a result, hourly lifeguards work shorter shifts than residential staff and are not required to stay overnight.
