Part-Time Library Assistant This part-time position helps deliver library services by assisting patrons in their use of library spaces and services. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. The position works a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends. Essential Duties Staff library service desks, opening and closing library spaces as assigned Greets patrons, helping and directing them to requested service points within the facility and to other departments within the College Access borrower records to check library materials in and out, renew items, and update account information as needed Shelves library materials and preserves the physical appearance and order of collections through shelving, shelf reading, and shifting Guides patrons in using computers, copiers, equipment, and printers Collects and logs library charges when appropriate, making change for cash transactions Inspects items for damage and notifies a supervisor if needed Ensures users receive excellent customer service Maintains confidentiality of user information Contributes to work in other library functional areas as needed Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the department and college Pay and Hours Rate of Pay: $14.00 per Hour. Position averages 19 hours per week during normal operating hours. Minimum Qualifications The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience in a library environment or a related field. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs Knowledge of campus and community resources Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations Ability to compile information into report form Physical Demands Frequent Activities Manipulate items with fingers, including keyboarding Sitting Standing Walking Constantly Required Activities Hearing Repetitive motion Talking The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes. Work Environment The work environment typically consists of a professional office setting with a moderate noise level, including sounds from conversations, office equipment, and occasional movement of staff. Lighting is standard for office spaces, and the temperature is controlled to remain within a comfortable range. Employees may occasionally need to visit other areas, such as storage rooms, conference spaces, or outdoor locations, where environmental conditions may vary. Infrequently, exposure to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials, might be required.
