Grain Elevator Operator - Barge Facility Tech

General Laborer – Barge & Truck Loading Responsibilities Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings. Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations. Execute deckhand tasks such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, and tying off barges. Load and unload barges, ensuring draft and quality requirements are met. Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate storage locations. Maintain grain quality during storage and transfer. Complete documentation accurately, promptly, and legibly. Perform general housekeeping duties: sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other cleanup activities. Conduct preventive maintenance and repairs as required. Unload barges, clean barges, or move product to storage as needed. Operate heavy equipment for loading trucks or rail and, where applicable, run and shut down dryers. Operate various heavy equipment and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: at least one year of experience in an industrial environment with a dependable work record. Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to complete documentation requirements accurately. Following directions, using logical reasoning, and troubleshooting problems. Ability to work independently and within a team. Ability to use tools appropriate for the assigned tasks. Strong focus on customer service, both internally and externally. Physical Demands Balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat continuously or frequently. Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights. Concentrate on tasks without becoming distracted. Distinguish grain characteristics, odors, and quality differences. Enter data into a computer (observations, logs). Grasp and reach frequently. Lift, push, or pull loads up to 50 lbs occasionally or continuously. Use and maintain all applicable PPE. Undergo required PFT and fit testing where applicable. Meet FRA and DOT testing requirements where applicable. Work in confined spaces. Walk safely on barge surfaces and around water. Stand and walk constantly or continuously. Communicate verbally, in person, and over two‑way radio, and recognize emergency alarms. Work safely on railcars, open gates, and operate vibrators where applicable. Work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating 12‑hour shifts. Operate in high dust environments and extreme weather conditions. Be acutely aware of surroundings and quickly adapt to changes.
