Neuro ICU Nurse Position At UF Health JacksonvilleAt UF Health Jacksonville, our Neuro ICU nurses provide highly specialized care for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. As part of an academic health system, Level I Trauma Center, and comprehensive neuroscience program, Neuro ICU nurses work alongside nationally recognized physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient-centered care while advancing clinical excellence, education, and research.Position OverviewThe Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care utilizing the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and professional nursing standards. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients, including those with stroke, traumatic brain injury, intracranial hemorrhage, seizures, spinal cord injuries, and other complex neurological conditions.The RN maintains accountability for assigned patients while coordinating care with physicians, advanced practice providers, technical nurses, patient care associates, and other members of the healthcare team. The RN functions as a patient advocate, promotes patient safety, and may serve as charge nurse when assigned.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver high-quality, patient-centered care to critically ill neurological and neurosurgical patients.Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing neurological monitoring.Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and organizational policies.Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.Utilize advanced technology and monitoring systems to support patient care delivery.Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, disease processes, and discharge needs.Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.Serve as a resource and mentor to peers and support staff as appropriate.Participate in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice projects, and professional development activities.Function as charge nurse when assigned.QualificationsRequired EducationAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing.BSN RequirementNew hires effective June 14, 2017, must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position.Employees hired or transferred between August 1, 2013, and June 13, 2017, must comply with the educational requirements outlined in their offer letter and job description at the time of hire or transfer.Employees hired or transferred prior to August 1, 2013, are grandfathered under previous requirements.Preferred EducationBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).Required Licensure & CertificationsCurrent Florida Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Florida licensure.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross prior to the first day of employment.Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association within six (6) months of hire or transfer into the Neuro ICU.Preferred CertificationsCritical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN)Neuroscience Certified Nurse (CNRN)Other relevant specialty certificationRequired ExperienceLess than one year of related nursing experience.Preferred ExperienceOne (1) year of acute care, critical care, Neuro ICU, ICU, emergency, stroke, or progressive care nursing experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving abilities.Ability to manage rapidly changing patient conditions in a high-acuity environment.Effective communication and collaboration skills.Commitment to teamwork and patient-centered care.Proficiency with electronic medical records and healthcare technology.Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining patient safety and quality outcomes.Why UF Health Jacksonville?Academic teaching hospital with opportunities for professional growth and continuing education.Work alongside leading neuroscience and critical care specialists.Access to advanced technology and innovative treatment approaches.Comprehensive benefits package and competitive compensation.Opportunities for specialty certification, career advancement, and leadership development.If you are passionate about critical care nursing and want to make a meaningful impact on patients facing complex neurological conditions, we invite you to join our Neuro ICU team at UF Health Jacksonville.
