Job Summary

Supervise, instruct, and lead members and guests of the YMCA Southcoast in such a way as to ensure a safe, positive, educational, and healthy experience in the Free weight room, Cardiovascular/Nautilus Center, and any and all aspects of the Wellness/Fitness Department, including the gymnasium.

Essential Functions

1. Provide a friendly environment to members and guests by presenting yourself in proper work attire (staff shirt and name tag), introducing yourself, learning member’s names, and providing encouragement, knowledge, and positive feedback to members as they workout.

2. Orient new members to the Cardiovascular/Nautilus room, by demonstrating and explaining proper technique and use of any and all pieces of equipment and encourage members not to hesitate to ask questions at any time during or after the orientation.

3. Provide workout cards for members and guests upon their request. Generate personalized programs exercise programs and workout cards for members and guests who receive personal training.

4. Instruct members and guests on the basics of exercise including, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.

5. Perform general preventative maintenance on all equipment located in the Wellness/Fitness department.

6. Keep all areas of the Wellness/Fitness department free of any and all hazards.

7. Ensure cleanliness of all areas of the Wellness/Fitness department by following and performing the posted maintenance duties and schedule.

8. Incorporate character development into the Wellness/Fitness department.

9. Enhance the culture of the gymnaisum/fitness floor by understanding the membership code of conduct and making sure all member and non-members are following.

10. Attend all scheduled, mandatory, staff meetings and trainings.

11. To perform any other duties as requested by the Wellness/Fitness Director or Executive Director.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to work cooperatively with people at all levels with respect.
• Keeping all required certifications up to date in all areas of wellness.

Qualifications:

• Current CPR and First Aid certifications. Or obtain within 3 months of employment.
• Must have basic knowledge and understanding of exercise training principles, including cardiovascular, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility exercises.
• Must demonstrate skills for successful human interaction, relation, and communication. Must be an example of wellness and fitness.
