JOB GOAL: The High School Security Specialist is responsible for supporting daily security operations at Tupelo High School through active camera monitoring, visitor management, student badge oversight, staff ID coordination, and campus activity observation. Working alongside the Assistant Security Officer, this position helps maintain a safe, secure, and orderly school environment by monitoring crowd behavior, adjusting camera views as needed, and identifying opportunities to improve surveillance coverage and campus safety procedures.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Camera Monitoring and Security Oversight:
• Monitor campus camera systems throughout the school day
• Observe and report unusual activity, safety concerns, or security incidents
• Adjust cameras as needed to improve visibility and coverage of student and visitor activity
• Monitor crowd activity in common areas, hallways, entrances, exits, and event spaces
• Assist in documenting incidents using camera footage when needed
• Make recommendations regarding camera placement, coverage gaps, and system improvements
• Badge and ID Management:
• Oversee issuance and accountability of student badges
• Assist with staff ID badge coordination and replacement needs
• Maintain accurate records related to badge and ID distribution
• Support enforcement of badge visibility and identification procedures on campus
• Visitor Management:
• Oversee and support the visitor management system for campus guests
• Ensure visitors are properly checked in, approved, and issued visitor identification as required
• Monitor visitor access and movement in accordance with district and school procedures
• Assist front office and school administrators with visitor-related safety concerns
• Daily Campus Activity Support:
• Observe day-to-day activity to help maintain a safe and orderly campus environment
• Support the Assistant Security Officer and school administrators with security-related needs
• Monitor high-traffic times and locations, including arrival, dismissal, lunch periods, and special events
• Report concerns related to student behavior, unauthorized access, or campus safety hazards
• Collaboration and Safety Support:
• Work closely with school administration, the Assistant Security Officer, and district leadership on security matters
• Assist with school safety procedures, drills, and emergency response support as directed
• Promote a positive and professional presence with students, staff, and visitors
• Maintain awareness of campus safety best practices and district expectations

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Primarily based at Tupelo High School
• Combination of indoor monitoring and active campus observation
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Ability to walk campus as needed throughout the day
• Ability to respond quickly to security concerns or urgent situations
• Occasional attendance at after-school events or activities may be required
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
