Position Title Experienced RN - Registered Nurse - Hematology Oncology - Stephenson Cancer Center Department SCC Hematology/Neuro Job Description This position may be filled as an Ambulatory RN Level 1 or 2, depending on individual experience, education, and other qualifications. The Hematology Oncology Clinic is an outpatient facility at the Stephenson Cancer Center with 12-15 providers, servicing roughly 60 patients with different blood disorders and cancer diagnoses, as well as bone marrow biopsy procedures and interventions. This is a fast‑paced, collaborative environment that requires great communication skills, the ability to multitask, and welcomes a willingness to learn. General Description As an OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) Ambulatory I, you will work under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care in an ambulatory setting to patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Essential Responsibilities Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards. Assume responsibility for assigned patients or a group of patients to be seen by the service/clinic. Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assist physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary. Administer medication as prescribed. Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products. Deliver patient care safely and competently. Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff. Inform patients and families of clinic and/or unit procedures and share the care plan during the time of care and at discharge. Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Foster a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession. Develop a professional career plan and establish personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise‑wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership. Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s winning aspiration. Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (RN I) Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Experience: 0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse. License/Certification: Current Registered Nurse License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Minimum Qualifications (RN II) Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Experience: 3+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required. License/Certification: Current Registered Nurse License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Specialty certification(s) preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients. Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest. Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner. Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
