Senior Accountant (New York City Metropolitan Area)

A Financial Services Firm based in New York City is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join their team as either a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities

• Manage key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Work closely with and support the firm’s CFO across accounting operations, financial reporting, systems enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses, investigating discrepancies and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
• Support the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems, including general ledger configuration, reporting tools, expense management, and subledger integrations.
• Partner with internal teams and external providers to define system requirements, test functionality, validate data migrations, and resolve implementation issues.
• Develop and improve accounting workflows, policies, and procedures to support evolving business needs and a more efficient close process.
• Identify process and control gaps and help implement appropriate approval, reconciliation, access, and review controls.
• Research accounting matters and prepare memoranda documenting transaction treatment, key judgments, and relevant U.S. GAAP guidance.
• Support accounting and reconciliation for complex transactions, working with internal stakeholders and external advisors on related reporting considerations.
• Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
• Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Compliance, and Legal to address accounting issues and resolve gaps in processes and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 2–10 years of experience in public accounting, private industry, or a combination of both, with a strong foundation in accounting and financial reporting.
• Financial services experience preferred; strong candidates from other industries will also be considered.
• CPA or CA designation, progress toward certification, or an interest in pursuing either credential preferred.
• Experience with financial close processes, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and U.S. GAAP.
• Exposure to accounting system implementations, integrations, data migration, testing, or workflow automation preferred.
• Experience developing accounting policies, technical memoranda, process documentation, or internal controls is a plus.
• Familiarity with accounting for complex transactions or specialized financial services activities is helpful.
