Description


The essential function of the position within the organization is to operate and maintain equipment, machinery, and vehicles for the assigned area. The position is responsible for assigned tasks and equipment. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.

Summary of Duties


Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs on precision machinery and equipment such as tractors, dump trucks, mowers, garbage trucks, leaf vac trucks, knuckleboom trucks, roll-off trucks, backhoes, boom mowers, bulldozers, excavators, skid steer loaders, snow removal equipment, or street sweepers.


Picks up garbage on a route for residential and/or business customers; hauls debris such as bushes, rubbish, or grass to designated drop site, hauls or exchanges swap load containers.


Transports machinery/equipment, supplies, and materials to work sites.


Secures and partitions off work areas with traffic signs, cones, and/or barricades; flags and directs traffic around work areas as needed.


Completes work orders and other required documentation.


Performs special assignments as directed, such as removing ice and snow, cleaning equipment, or assigning tasks to community service workers.


Upon direction from Supervision, may act as a lead worker on a job site or project, and provides direction to and trains new employees on equipment operation, work processes, or routes.


Demonstrates excellent communication skills with supervision, peers, and the public to provide excellent customer service for customers both internal and external.

Minimum Qualifications


Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training.
Requires valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License.
Requires six months of related experience.
Supplemental Information

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Requires light to medium work involving standing or walking most of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular basis.
