Job Summary

The Medical Equipment Field Service Technician is responsible for performing on-site inspections, troubleshooting, documentation, and minor repairs of medical equipment within healthcare environments. This position will inspect equipment for potential issues, access internal components as needed, document findings through detailed notes and photographs, and perform minor repairs within the technician’s scope of work.

When additional or more complex repairs are required, the technician will communicate findings and coordinate with internal teams, manufacturers, or other technical resources to support resolution.

This is a hands-on, travel-based position requiring strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work professionally within active healthcare facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled inspections and evaluations of medical equipment at customer locations.
• Troubleshoot equipment to identify visible, mechanical, electrical, or operational issues.
• Safely remove and reinstall equipment covers, panels, and other components to access internal areas for inspection.
• Perform minor repairs, adjustments, or component replacement when within the technician's approved scope of work.
• Take clear and detailed photographs of equipment, internal components, damage, deficiencies, and completed work.
• Document inspection results, equipment conditions, troubleshooting steps, and recommended next steps.
• Identify conditions requiring additional technical support or more extensive repairs and escalate findings to the appropriate team.
• Coordinate with internal service teams, project managers, manufacturers, or other technical personnel regarding required repairs and follow-up work.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment information, including model numbers, serial numbers, parts, and service activity.
• Complete and update required daily reports, project documentation, photographs, timecards, and work status information.
• Follow manufacturer instructions, company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable safety standards while performing work.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and replacement parts necessary to complete assigned work.
• Communicate professionally with customers, facility personnel, coworkers, and management regarding findings and project status.
• Complete assigned projects in a high-quality and timely manner while meeting the scope of the assignment.
• Maintain cleanliness and professionalism while working in active healthcare and patient-care environments.

• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely disassemble and reassemble equipment panels, covers, and components.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and identify potential mechanical, electrical, or operational issues.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems, including AC/DC voltage and electrical safety.
• Experience using common hand tools and diagnostic tools such as multimeters and voltage meters.
• Ability to follow technical documentation, service instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer procedures.
• Ability to recognize when an issue is outside the technician's scope and escalate it appropriately.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting equipment and documenting findings.
• Ability to take clear photographs and provide accurate written documentation of equipment conditions and repairs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to internal teams and customers.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with remote technical and management teams.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions and escalate concerns quickly and efficiently.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to use web-based portals, mobile applications, and electronic reporting systems.
• Ability to quickly learn new equipment, technology, software, and manufacturer-specific processes.
• Ability to work professionally within hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, and other healthcare environments.
• Previous experience with Hologic equipment, medical imaging equipment, biomedical equipment, or other medical devices is preferred but not required.

Qualification StandardsEducation

High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, vocational training, electronics training, biomedical equipment training, or a related technical certification is preferred.

Experience

Minimum of two years of experience in field service, equipment maintenance, mechanical or electrical troubleshooting, medical equipment, electronics, or a related technical environment preferred.

Experience servicing medical devices, diagnostic equipment, imaging equipment, or Hologic equipment is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment

The primary working environment is within hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, and other healthcare facilities.

This position requires 100% travel to customer and project locations which may include out of state travel.

The position may require the employee to:

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for extended periods.
• Work around, behind, or underneath equipment.
• Remove and reinstall equipment panels and components.
• Use hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull tools, equipment, and components as required to perform assigned work.
• Work in confined or limited-access areas when necessary.
• Comply with all customer, facility, company, and applicable safety requirements.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in designated environments.

Compensation and Benefits

• $26.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on experience
