About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: MedSurg/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Current and valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification preferred Must-Have: Experience with general MedSurg patients, post-operative care, oncology patients, and respiratory equipment management. Description: This position involves caring for general MedSurg patients. The unit handles post-operative cases such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic appendectomy. Oncology patients with complications, including neutropenic precautions and infections, are also cared for. Nurses will administer chemotherapy as required and manage chest tubes, including PleurX chest tubes. Experience with psych patients who may require 1:1 supervision is a plus. Nurses are required to titrate Heparin drips. There are Phillips telemetry monitors on the unit. While there is a central monitor tech, nurses must read and interpret strips. Charge nurses are available 24/7, though day shift charge nurses do not take patient assignments. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) support the unit, with three CNAs on each shift. CPAP and BiPap equipment is used, and respiratory therapy manages these systems. Shifts are 12 hours in length, either from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Every other weekend scheduling is required. The holiday schedule rotates with permanent staff. Travelers may float to similar units but are not the first to float. Dress code for nurses is royal blue scrubs. This role requires strong nursing skills and a commitment to patient care.
