Senior Construction Accountant

A well-established, employee-owned general contractor specializing in high-end residential construction is seeking a Senior Construction Accountant to join its Brooklyn office.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a hands-on position responsible for supporting the company’s accounting and financial operations. The ideal candidate has strong construction accounting experience, is comfortable working across multiple active projects, and is ready to take on increasing responsibility within the finance department.

Responsibilities

• Assist the CFO with monthly close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
• Manage AIA billing, pay applications, and project-related invoicing
• Prepare and maintain Work in Progress schedules and related financial reports
• Monitor job costs and reconcile project financials to the general ledger
• Review and process accounts payable, accounts receivable, subcontractor invoices, and payments
• Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
• Assist with cash-flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation
• Track lien waivers and Certificates of Insurance in coordination with project teams
• Review project financial information for accuracy and resolve discrepancies
• Help supervise, train, and support accounting team members
• Maintain and improve accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls
• Ensure financial information is entered and maintained accurately within Sage 300
• Collaborate with project managers and senior leadership on financial and job-cost matters

Qualifications

• Construction accounting experience is required
• Experience with a general contractor is strongly preferred
• Experience G702/703 required
• Proficiency in Sage 300 is required
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Thorough knowledge of AIA billing, job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with accounting, project management, and senior leadership teams
• Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff is a plus
